Have they changed the rules for PO-R?

I always thought the occupancy for PO - Riverside was 5, because of the trundle bed.

Have they changed this? I know my daughter (11) can fit on the trundle bed comfortably.

Have they taken away one of the few affordable choices for a family of five? :confused3

I asked for a price quote from DU, mainly to compare to the price of my POP reservation. I was told I have to get two rooms.

I love Riverside. We stayed there several times when the kids were smaller.

There are only a limited number of rooms available with trundle beds. Perhaps they're all already reserved.

No, you can still do 5 to a room there. Not sure why they would have said that.

I agree, Riverside is great. I really enjoyed our stay there last year.

This is a bit of a sore point with us, but here was our experience. We were three families, two of us were two adults and the other was two adults and one child. We requested the bayou rooms months ago when we made reservations. When we got there to check in, they told us they couldn't put us in the Bayou rooms because they were reserved for groups and families with 5. We were incredulous, and couldn't believe it. They put two of us in the mansions. When our other party of two checked in later they were put in the Bayou. We were furious. We checked back later another Cm told us that she didn't know why we were told we couldn't be in the Bayou section. I went back later explained my complaint (politely), asked to see the supervisor. She wouldn't come to see me but sent back this young boy back, who had no clue and kept giving me the same answers. Since the supervisor was to unprofessional to give me the time of day, I gave up after a couple more minutes of trying to get the answer as to why we were told this.
Ha ha, so I guess what I am trying to say is that it depends on who the CM is when you check in. There are many rooms for 5 though and keep trying. It is one of our favorite places to stay though.

Sounds as though you were given the run-around! You're right of course, what they told you about the bayou is not true. I just got back from an 11 night stay and was in a bayou room with trundle - and I was solo!

It could be possible that they did not have any bayou rooms the day you checked in (taking into account groups of 5 which they probably preassign) but there were some checkouts so the others could get in a couple days later.

Well, Disney has no problem booking me one room with older children on their website. The TA insists that the fifth person has to be under 10. :confused3

The price doesn't look any different then the price I have for two rooms at POP. I'm not sure if it's worth it to call Disney myself or let it go, even though I just plain curious now.

I just booked two rooms in POR Riverside. One room is for two adults and the other room is for two adults and one child. I was asked if I was sure I wanted two rooms because I could put five in a room because there was a trundle bed. I was told that the trundle bed fits a child that is between 3 and 9. I guess they aren't letting you have one room because your daughter is 11.

My recent experience concerning this: I had 2 rooms booked for 2 adults and 3 teens. I tried to change it to 1 room so we could spend money elsewhere. Disney would not let all 5 of us stay in one room. When I mentioned the trundle bed she said that was only if someone was under the age of 9, so we needed the two rooms.

We were assigned 2 rooms in the bayou section. They ended up being connecting rooms and both rooms had a trundle in the room.

Overall, I'm now glad I had the 2 rooms. It was just nice for my husband and I to have our own "digs". However, at the time I was surprised they refused to let us book 5 to a room, one of the girls and a very petite girl who could have easily fit on the trundle.

So maybe disney is cracking down on the ages of those using a trundle. I've been wondering this myself.

That would account for people experiencing what they perceived as a change in policy -- though it isn't the policy that changed, but rather the age of the children! :)

Are they still charging $15 extra per day for the trundle bed? I paid that on one trip so DD would be able to sleep on it (she was 15 at the time). After that experience sleeping on the trundle, DD said no way she would do it again. She thought it was very uncomfortable and she is very petite (5'2"/104 pounds). On later trips, we brought an Aerobed. She convenient and much more comfortable.

I know they did away with the fee awhile ago. We used to pay it. :crazy2:

At 11, my daughter is quite petite, about the size of her eight year old friends. She would have no trouble on the bed.

I think Disney is crazy if they make an age limit on it. What if they say you have to be a certain age to use the day beds??

Disney's taken some steps recently to synchronize the divider between children and older folks for other things as well, such as buffets.

There is no fee for the trundle bed in the room, we just stayed there March 2005. We were a group of 5 consisting of my senior citizen parents, myself (34) and my two children 11 (then 10) and 7. Actually, my Mom and I slept on the trundle to have our "own" bed and not have kids elbowing us all night and it was fine for both of us, even comfy. I can see why they wouldn't book the room that way though because I'm 5'5" and a half and I'm a side fetal sleeper so it was fine but if I stretched out my feet and ankles went over the end of the bed. I can only imagine if they booked that for grown ups and big kids the complaints they would get about the "little" bed.

when my husband and i stayed at POR we only had two beds in the room and no trundle before and after our cruise so we stayed there two different times, so i'm also sure they just don't have trundle rooms available at the time you booked for.

It is RECOMMENDED that the trundle bed be used for a child 3-9 b/c the bed is only 35" by 65"...so crazy if Disney has an age limit on it?? If I was spending all that money, I wouldn't want to put an adult on that bed for example.
