Have questions about Discover 5% cash back deal

Hello all. We will be headed to Disney for 2 weeks in Nov and I wanted to start stocking up on Disney gift cards via a discount. We do have a Discover and a sams club membership. I'm confused on the discover cash back deal. Is the 5% cash back bonus purchased from a whole sale club in addition to 5% by purchasing over the portal? my sams raised their $500 gift cards to $479 and change as before it was $474 and change. I also have a target card and think that target is the better place to use if the Discover card isn't offering a deal anymore. Can someone please help me clarify if we will be getting 10% cash back from discover if purchased via the portal. Thanks so much

At this point, it's not known. I believe @pillow has made a purchase through the portal and is waiting to see if it works. It takes a while. If it works, youd get the approximately 4% off from Sam's, 5% back from Discover for the quarterly bonus and 5% back from the portal.

Thank you so much! I am going to try it this weekend and see. I wanted to purchase at BJS since they are cheaper but cant get the additional 5% cash back if using the portal. Ugggg... lol

I haven't tried this yet but some people have posted positive results with BJ's. You don't need a membership to order online.

OP is referencing the Discover Deals Portal that offers 5% back for purchasing through their portal in addition to the 5% quarterly bonus. BJ's is not a merchant offered on their portal.

Sadly Bjs isnt a part of the portal

Every merchant has a "code" identifying its category such as gas station, wholesale club, fast food, department store, etc.

Your quarterly bonus depends on the merchant code matching the quarterly categories for the purchase you make.

Try this: Call Discover and, through their automated phone support system, ask to hear "recent transactions" or something like that. It may give you the merchant code as well as the date and dollar amount for each transaction you made that billing period. (Wait a few days for today's transactions to show up.)

I haven't tried that yet for Discover but I got the merchant codes when calling a different credit card phone support noumber.

Are you talking about the 10% off at samsclub.com on Discovers website?

I combine the discounted gift cards on BJ's website with the Discover 5% cash back. Saves me hundreds. Sam's Club is a little more expensive for Disney gift cards.
