We are planning a trip for July. We will be 3 kids, 13-19 and 2 adults. I was thinking of purchasing gift cards for the kids, so they can use them however they want. I have a few questions though…

If I buy more than one gift card per child, is there a way to combine them onto one so they are not carrying around 3-4 cards each? I am buying them in small amounts as I get paid, trying to lessen out of pocket expense once we arrive.

Can the gift cards be used at the little carts around the parks that sell water, soda and snacks?

Is there any places that do not accept gift cards?

I know Target sells them and the Kroger here in town does as well.
Thank you!!

Pretty much every Disney-owned venue will accept them. There are some restaurants in Disney Springs that may not. I believe even the traveling vendors (like the balloon guys or the CMs who sell light spinners) now have portable scanners/readers for sales.

You can combine smaller gift cards together on disneygiftcard.com. You are also able to nickname the cards, so you can name one for each child and be able to monitor their gc balance on the website. It is really quite nice.

Thank you so much for this information!! That is exactly what I am going to do. Now to try and figure out how much to give. My 2 kids have been to WDW too many times to count. My boyfriend's 13 yr old has never been, so I want him to be able to buy what he wants. I do realize he is not my child, but since I am doing for my 2, I don't want to exclude him. Plus, I am hoping that he will be my stepson in the future!!

How much do you a lot for spending and does that include snacks in the parks or just merchandise?

Personally, I wouldn't give my kids more than a $100 gift card just in case they lose it. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't allow them to spend more than $100. But, I think that is a reasonable amount.

When we were there for Flower and Garden Festival, they had wearable gift cards there were on a bracelet. I thought they were so cool and I grabbed one to keep. This might be a good idea for kids, but they don't seem to be available to purchase online. But you might be able to make them some lanyard card holders for them to keep their gift cards around their necks or keep them with you until they are ready to spend the money. If you buy a starter card on disneygiftcard.com, you can choose a different design for each child to help identify them. Pick out their favorite characters.

Those are a great idea for younger kids. As far as food goes, I allow mine to use their MB to charge snacks. Most of the time we are together and I just end up either using my MB or gift card anyways. Mine rarely venture off on their own even though they are older. They like to stick with us - which is nice. :)

I made these last year for F&W. The F&W GC is smaller but I thought that the wristlet wasn't as comfortable, nor as sturdy, as the one that I made. I bought the wristlets on Amazon for a few dollars with Prime shipping.

Here's a tip for using the gift card combining site too: I put the $ all onto 1 gift card per person, but also left one "empty" gift card in the account per person. I gave them the loaded card and kept the empty one with me. That way if they lose the loaded gift card, I can quickly log into the gift card website and transfer the $ from the lost card to the empty one in my wallet - hopefully before anyone drains the lost card.
I didn't end up needing to do it, but it gave me peace of mind. Even if they weren't with me, they could call me and I could do it immediately.

This is exactly what I would suggest. To take it a step farther, if you are on a long trip and want them to keep it on them you could add a certain amount per day from one master gift card that you have. I also love that you can pick a starter design on disneygiftcard.com. There are so many and they are adorable. You can even personalize them with your own pictures.

Disneygiftcard .com doesn't allow you to transfer specific amounts between cards that are less than the full balance of the "master gift card."

The OP mentioned buying Disney gift cards in smaller denominations incrementally. For example, OP could transfer multiple $50s to combine onto Card A, but OP cannot then dole out smaller amounts from Card A to Card B. It's all or nothing.

I'd also add that Disneygiftcard .com allows you to manage only 5 cards at one time. You can delete any of the cards from your account to free up room to manage more cards, and the "deleted" cards will retain their balance, if any, and can still be used with no problems.
