Our family has never stayed out of WDW before but I just started reading some threads on here to get an idea of good hotels off property. We may be able to take 2 trips next year but 1 would have to be a "cheap" trip (I know, nothings cheap in Disneyworld!) so I started looking off site for more options off site( since we are 5 we can only stay at POR or the deluxes). We will have our own car, there are 2 adults, 3 kids, & preferable one of the WDW "friendly" hotels. Any suggestions as where the best place to stay would be?

There are so many great options in the WDW area. First, what type of price range are you looking at, and what type of amenities. I also urge you to check some of the condo and villa rates at www.vrbo.com sometimes you can find a great rental for cheaper than the Value resorts onsite at Disney.

You may want to take a look at the Nickelodeon Family Suites. It was formerly the HOliday Family Suites. We stayed there several years ago and it was terrific accomodation and pool (the food was mediocre at best). It was very close to WDW and the extra space, as opposed to a standard hotel room, was great.

I can whole heartedly recommend Buena Vista Suites. The suites comfortably sleep 5, have a kitchenette and complimentary transport to the parks (and free breakfast every morning). They usually run between $88 and $100 per night, which is a great deal. You can check rates and availability here. Also, if you do consider the Nickolodeon, check out Dreams to book it (help support the DIS) - you can check rates/availability here

Thx

I would also recommend Cypress Point and Cypress Point Grand Villas. They are extremely close to Disney and have all been refurbished within the last two years. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa last year for around $90 a night.

Also....check out the Marriott Resorts...Grande Vista and Cypress Harbour. They are beautiful resorts and can sometimes be found for special "Members Only" rates on Marriott.com. Just use code M11 in the promo box when checking prices for your dates.

Also...check out Sky AUction. They have some great deals on resorts in Orlando. We stayed at Orange Lake - a beautiful resort for $261 for the entire week for a 3 bedroom villa.

Hope this helps give you some ideas.

Happy planning!

We stayed at Tropical Palms Fun Resort for a couple nights to check it out after our stay at WDW. My family loved this resort. There are little cabins complete with fridge, stove, microwave, table and chairs. We stayed in a studio which had a double bed, queen bed, couch (not sure if it was a pull-out), and a double bed up in the loft. There are also one bedroom and, I believe, 2 bedroom cottages. We paid about $100/night during low season in Feb. 2005. It is located right behind Old Town.

I agree with spiceycat. Check out Skyauction. Though you don't have to wait until the last minute. We used Skyauction this year and last year and both times booked about 6 months prior to our trip. We probably could have spent a little less if we had waited but I feel more comfortable not waiting.

Both trips, we had a 2-bed, 2-bath unit at Orbit One Vacation Villas and paid $260 for the week each time. Great location. Very nice accomodations. And you can't beat the price.

Pat - What are the advantages of waiting until a couple of weeks out to use SkyAuction? Are the deals that much better?

yes - generally you get more selections and because they are many more - you can generally pay $1 maybe up $20 for the bid.

so you get it for $211 to $230 for the week.

last minute is generally when more 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom also come on skyauction.

Another Skyauction fan here-a full week at the Fountains for around 350-close to all of the parks! We booked 4 months out as we do not want to wait until the last minute to book our room.

Disney lost an on site customer due to lack of discounts.
