Have never flown with children ???????

I have looked on the TSA site and Delta's site and cannot find an answer. My kids are 14 and 11 will they need any kind of photo id or any other documents to fly?

No. You can bring a copy of their birth certificate if you have one though.

I fly with my kids - ages 12 and 8 - and all TSA has ever done has been to take the boarding passes and ask my children their names to make sure that the names they said were the names on the boarding passes.

My children have never needed photo IDs to fly - my son was almost 11 last year when we flew, and my twins were 9 1/2. That's not really an official answer, but that's how it went down for us....actually each year since 2000.

Our elementary school provides complimentary photo IDs each year, so I bring those along *just in case*.

We have flown numerous times w/both our ds and our step-nieces (7 & 12, & 12) and our step-nephew (8) and never had to show any id for them (and we even have different last names than our non-blood relatives). When we go to Florida, we usually fly with Delta as well. You really don't have to worry about it.

This has come up before on this board...the only time your kids need ID is if you're flying internationally - because they would need passports anyway.

Or if you were flying with an under 2 year old 'lap baby.' I have heard of them asking for proof of age in that case (not for TSA, but for the airline).

My DDs are both adults and look younger than they actually are. On our last trip with oldest DD, she had her license out and the TSA person (an older woman) said "I don't need to see that, deary. Only adults." DD was not real happy they didn't recognize."

Hello There-

I can tell you that last October I took my 3 boys (then ages: 14, 10 & 6) to Mexico, actually Puerto Vallarta and I was told by the airline that first we needed passports (which BTW both parents must sign the application) and second If they had any kind of school ID they should bring it. Out here (San Diego) all of our Jr Highs & High School issue ID's so my oldest son was able to use that. My other two, they just asked them their names at the secruity check point.

That was for an internation flight.......if your staying demostic then bring ID's if you have them, otherwise don't worry about it.

My DS is 17 and not "required" to provide ID but due to his size, he looks older and carries his drivers license. When he was about 12 I took him to the DMV and got him an ID card.

DD is 8, has no formal ID and it is not an issue.

BTW, the ID thing is a TSA not airline unless the child is under 2 and going without a ticket.
