Im flying from gatwick to MCO on Monday, doing the twilight check in on Sunday. I am stressing (as usual!!) about the weight of the cases. I still cant believe Virgin have reduced the weight allowance from 32 to 23kg, thats quite a drop! :furious:
I have got the usual solution in the back of my mind if the cases are badly overweight, ill just go and buy a holdall and transfer some of the stuff over. However, when i had a look at Virgin website, it said any excess weight up to 32kg is just a one off £20 charge? Sounds a bit too good to be true?

Actually, I think we might have booked our flights prior to April also, I will have to chack with my sister - do they waver new rules if you booked before then??

QUOTE
Bookings made since the 1st April 2006 are subject to new free baggage allowances. Economy passengers travelling on flights to/from the USA, Caribbean, Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica and Nigeria wishing to check in baggage weighing between 23kg and 32kg are subject to an excess charge of GBP20 / USD35 per piece. Additional pieces over your free allowance are charged at the normal rates listed below.

I know its £70 on the way back, but I always come back with at least one more bag anyway (bit of light shopping! ;) ), so I will just spread the weight.

Does anyone know if this is true??

Thanks guys, Jo x

I would ring Virgin to check, but you should be covered under the 'old' baggage allowance as you booked prior to the changes.

If you are still over the limit you will be charged at full rate for excess baggage both ways - the reduced cost only applies to customers who booked after april 1st - it's basically a way to save on fuel costs and charge the customer extra to help towards the fuel if they add a bit more weight to the plane :goodvibes:

23kg is still a lot of luggage. Don't forget that you are allowed 2 pieces at that weight. Will be interested to see what virgin say, we booked last July 05 for our trip in Dec 06. Last July 05 we went with First Choice and were only allowed a grand total of 20kg but we managed ok with that.

I am going on a cruise middle week, and my 2 kids are staying for a month, so more packing than usual.
I sometimes am amazed when I see other people's luggage how they manage to fit 2 weeks clothes in tiny little cases!
Wish I could be a bit more like that, but unfortuately Im not, and probably never will be! :)
My sister just confirmed that we booked 19th Feb, so should be OK!! :cool1:

Jo the allowances are shown here

As Tashasmum said, you are aware that its 2 pieces of luggage per passenger at 23kg each - i.e. 46kg in total aren't you?
