We are booked on the 11 night Southern Carribbean. My DS (8) has cruised before, but this will be DD's (2) 1st cruise. She rides any amusement park ride she's tall enough to get on with no problem. But this gives me something else to worry about. So how many of your kids have got sea sick?

My kids have rode coasters and fast spinning rides their whole life, but a cruise ship is different. My DD who was 8 at the time of our first cruise had an upset stomach the first day or so, by the third day, we had some large waves to deal with, and she got sick in Animators Palate. Needless to say, none of us enjoyed that room very much that evening. We got her the Sea Bands that you wear on your wrists, and that and the crackers and green apples our server sent to our room, seemed to do the trick for the rest of the cruise. Myself and other DD (10 at the time), just took a dose of Dramamine once a day and seemed to be fine. I will say, both my DD's tend to get carsick if we are on a long trip, so that may have something to do with the seasickness. Good luck!

My DS8 last year was a little ill due to the hurricane seas...He had us beeped, and were told he was a little "under the weather".. I lay down with him a bit, and then remembered what the consellors had told me, it is always better on a full stomach...So, we ordered soup and a sandwich, and he was feeling way better after that..They attribute it a lot like morning sickness, and it is always better on a full stomach..

Having said that, I find that kids usually feel it much less than adults do...

I would be prepared in case though.. :goodvibes

On our third DCL cruise, DD then 6, felt queasy. I gave her Dramamine at night, so she slept off the drowsiness. Worked for me, too!

My one daughter got seasick, but my other kids didnt. She rides every ride and never gets sick on them. My son on the other hand gets a nauesea feeling on some of the rides. I think that the feeling probably is different. I gave her dramamine, it worked most of the time except for 1 1/2 days. She has a lot of ear problems(has tubes) so I think that makes it easier for her to get sick

DD11 took bonine the first day and wore the pressure seabands on our other two sea days. DD9 took bonine the first day (because mommy said she had too!) and felt fine the whole time. DD2 never had a problem.

Generally, a 2yo's vestibular system is not fully developed and/or regulated yet, so the movement of the ship *shouldn't be an issue.

Last year my son turned 7 the day we departed. We picked him up from the Oceaneer's club and he was green. He spent the rest of his birthday throwing up. By morning we took him to the nurse and it turned out he had a stomach virus. We were quarantined for a day.

Two days later he got sick at dinner and this time it was due to the rough seas. What helped him tremendously was wearing those sea sickness bands (forget the proper name) and putting ginger under his tongue when the seas were really rough. I'm so glad he's a sushi eater and used to ginger!

Bonine and the sea sick tabs provided at the clinic worked for us. Two years ago on our 5th cruise I had a 8, 10, 15 year old girls and myself feeling awful. DH went to the store and bought dramamine, made us all terribly tired and irritable. Next year we brought Bonine and grabbed some of the meds at the clinic first night. Never had a problem after that, and the bonus after the cruise I was able to ride Tower of Terror and Rocking Roller Coaster multiple times without any dizziness. I swear by that little Bonine pill and will take them again on our next cruise in September.

5 kids in our group, and 3 in our other group with no problems. One in particular suffers from car sickness...and motion sickness on rides but had no problems on the ship this summer. We brough Bonine with us just in case, though! SOUR candies...like lemon drops or sweet tarts also help my kids when they are feeling queasy. Bring some of those while you are all adjusting to the waves.

Of my 3 boys - 7,7 and 12, only one got sick, and it was a particularly rocking ship the whole week! K felt queasy at dinner the first night, came back to the room and threw up all over :crazy2:

He immediately felt better and was fine for the rest of the cruise! The kids really bounce back!

I think I may have given the kids some benadryl the first day. I took bonine 1x day the whole week, b/c I'm prone to motion sickness - never felt sick! :earboy2:

Hi,

My daughter has cruised 3 times. At 18 months, 2, and 3. She has never been seasick any of those times. The first time was on Carnival, then NCL, and finally in Dec. of '03 the Disney Magic.

Every kid is different though....

My DS 7 and 3 were fine. No sickness but the seas were calm and we were only on the ship for 4 days. Our last night was rough but by the time we felt the ship really moving, it was bed time and we slept through it. But I was prepared, I bought the sea bands, the ginger pills and the dramamine and did not need any of it.

Pooh Jen, were you on the 11/13 cruise last year? I vaguely remember talking about this last year, but my son got really motion sick on that sailing.
