the Grand Californian or Paradise Pier, paid for a moderate room, but got a theme park view?

We paid for our view. PP theme park last December. But my sister in law did not and was upgraded for free!

Just returned from a stay at the Grand Californian and booked standard view but we were upgraded to a pool view with parital park view without asking - very nice We got some great pics from our room!

Once we stayed at PP and got the view upgrade for free, very high up floor too. That view is really spectacular and one night after the park closed, there was a private party and it was fun to be able to watch and guess who it was-lol.

I know that you only asked about GC and PP but, in March we paid for a resort view regular room at the DH and got upgraded to a suite!! Only problem with that is we are all spoiled now and felt so so cramped in the regular room last week-lol. For that trip, we paid for a view and got the DTD 7th floor view nice view but so noisy not sure if we really liked it or not.

The first time I stayed at GC (2003?) we booked our room through Expedia. In the request field I said a park view would be great. We were given a park view (Grizzly River Rapids) room upon check in without asking. We also had a great view of the monorail as it went by. The rate through Expedia was something like $158.
