Have any of you ever needed any other ID when traveling WITH a U.S. Passport??

Have you ever needed to show a birth certificate, in addition to a Passport???

  • No, the passport alone is enough.

  • Yes, there was a situation where I needed to show/bring both.

DH and I already have passports and we'll be getting passports for DSs before our cruise next summer. This past summer DH and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Bermuda and I was a bit paranoid; I brought our birth certificates and driver's licenses in addition to our passports.

My question is: Have any of you ever needed to show your birth certificates if you had your passport with you?? I don't mind bringing our licenses with us because they're small and plastic and will fit with our KTTW cards in our water wallets, but I'd like to leave the birth certificates home.

I'll post this as a poll, please "vote" for the appropriate answer. Thanks!!!

On all our trips on DCL with a passport we have never needed a birth certificate for anything. Just adding a reply to keep it near the top of the page :)

My DS13 and I have been on a couple of cruises and to Europe and have never needed anything other than a passport. I would never even think to carry our birth certificates with us. I have my drivers license and he has a picture ID from school but we've never been asked for any additional documentation. DS can't wait for his to expire, since he looks so young in his photo and wants to get it updated :D

Been all around the world. Passport is all you need. Outside of U.S. birth certs mean nothing as far as travel is concerned

leave the bc's at home, you'll just worry about losing them. For travel purposes, the passport is the gold standard. Of course, you'll need your DL if you are going to drive but that's the only reason. Also, it's a pretty good idea to empty your wallet of non-essential cards, etc... when you travel. When we cruised, all I had were my debit card, my Amex, my DL & my passport.

I agree. We havent needed anything but passports to travel. It isnt worth the hassle as long as your passport is not expired and valid. I take my drivers license with me just because but not bc's. A passport is all you need to have!

I am wondering who voted that they did need their BC and passport. Legally I can't imagine why anyone would require a BC AND a passport (for travel). I would take my driver's license, though, so that you can get on and off the ship without taking your passport and leave the passport locked in the safe aboard the ship.

I voted based on "Have any of you ever needed any other ID when traveling WITH a U.S. Passport?? ". I should have read the rest of the box first.

With a passport, you don't need a birth certificate.

In traveling, in some cases I have also needed a visa, which is sometimes a separate document rather than being included in the visa section of my passport. I do not think this applies to the present Disney cruise itineraries.

Don't worry about anything else unless Disney documents require it.

Hi Seaspray!

Passports are all that is necessary for DCL. Use the passports for Port check in. A driver's license with a photo is more convenient than passports for getting on & off the ship with your KTTW card & also for the airport check in. Leave the passports in the room safe once you get to your stateroom. I wouldn't want to take them on excursions.

The birth certificate is not necessary, as you need to submit a certified copy when you apply for a passport. You would not get a passport if this wasn't filed, so it's kind of redundant.

I was surprised you could use a certified B certificate for Mexico. I though a passport would be necessary. Maybe it's because DCL stands behind it's ID practices?
