Have a stupid question about FD...but it can't hurt to ask

I was told (and saw it on the boards) that if free dining ends on...let's say...the 23rd of the month....but you started it the 21st...and you wanted to continue the FD...until the 30th...you could extend it....As long as you started it somewhere during the free dining dates.

My question is: Can this be "extended" through Thanksiving or Christmas?...Or would that rule exclude those times?

This. Thanksgiving/Christmas wouldn't be excluded so long as you check in during the free dining dates.

If you are there 11/22-11/30, and free dining ends 11/23 and Thanksgiving is on 11/28, you would be able to get free dining for the duration of your stay (just an example - I don't know the actual dates).

FD is different from RO discounts (which are date specific) in that it does carry through for the entire time as long as your check in date falls within the FD dates, as the pp said. You can check in as late as the last day FD is offered and have it for your entire trip. Here is a link with information on the promo from the WDW site:

FD is good through 12/23, so if you checked in by 12/23, you would have FD for your entire stay (as nkereina illustrated).

Correct. I did exactly this last year and booked this year for the same. We check in the day before FD ends and carry it all through Thanksgiving week.

Just agreeing with PP's.
We check in on Dec. 23rd (until Jan.1) and have free dining for the whole trip.

If your check-in day is during the promotion you get free dining for your full stay up to 14 nights. So if you check in on December 23 for 2 weeks you will have free dining from December 23 to January 6.

Your check-in date is the only relevant date. That date MUST be within the promotion period. The rest of your stay, that doesn't matter.

We are checking in November 20 and will have free dining all through Thanksgiving. Good thing because there is never a room discount over the holidays so at least this makes it palatable to pay the unbelievable room prices. With 4 adults and holiday pricing, we're saving around $250 a day on food with free dining.

I think it is odd that they made the end dates so that it is way easier to get FD for Christmas than Thanksgiving. They used to have the offer end the Saturday before Thanksgiving which was perfect for us. We had lots of fun getting FD for Thanksgiving.


To follow up on your title always remember when using the dining plan it never hurts to ask a question when you are ordering. You never know what a CM will allow.

I am surprised too! But, it makes taking my granddaughter easier and less costly. She is special needs and will start kindergarten this fall. I was told she could not miss any school. So, once I found out FD was available during that time...it took a little bit of the financial sting out of going during the holidays.
