I have a little question for all of you who travel with different types of medical equipment.

I am going on a cruise soon and although I am taking my scooter there is the possibility that for the shore excursions I won't be able to use it. I have a special crutch that I could take. The only thing is whether or not I can get it through security. It is called a Hands Free Crutch. I have all the documentation for it to prove what it is.

My question is have any of you had any trouble with odd medical devices and security? I don't want to check this piece of equipment it costs $750 on it's own.

Has anyone had any issues with the airlines and unique medical devices?

can you put a picture of what you are talking about? That might help, since i have never heard of a hands-free crutch. In general, if it is medical equipment, they have to let you take it on, as long as it is not dangerous (i.e. no machetes as medical equipment :) )

I am trying to get a copy of what it looks like, but here is the site it can be found at.
www.iwalk-free.com

It essentially give me the look of a amputee from the knee down, but there is a pad that I kneel on and it straps onto my leg with 3 straps. It allows me the ability to walk around and use my hands just like there was nothing wrong with my foot. I call it my peg leg. All I need is the eye patch and parrot.

Wait! You mean I have to leave my machete home! Great! Just another problem for this trip!

I don't think you will have a problem with security..I think that device is pretty self explanatory..

I tried to use the iwalkfree and was not successful! Probably should have given it more time than just a few days. It is a great device for those who have the balance and coordination:thumbsup2

It worked great for me 2 summers ago and this past September it worked fine until I got to tired during a class at school that did a lot of walking. I fell backwards on some stairs (that had no hand rail) and my foot got caught behind me and broke it again in another spot.

I am thinking that this might be the only way I will be able to take part in shore excursions on our cruise in March, since it seems the islands are not accessible for my scooter.
