Have a herniated disk, looking for suggestions

Thanks for the reassurance. I just know that if I go this route, that I will feel a bit funny riding along and then being able to stand up and walk and look completely normal.

As someone mentioned earlier, I guess it is better to have a great day with the family at WDW than to let my pride get the best of me and suffer all day long.

I ended up in the emergency room one night after playing hockey. Turns out I had a herniated disk, that happened in late December, just before Christmas. We had a Disney trip planned a month after this, in January. I got a wheelchair for the parks but was able to walk around the resort and to get to the parks. One day I decided I would try to walk, I thought DHS would be good since it is a relatively small park. By noon I had to go back to the hotel room and take some medicine because I was in so much pain.

So my advice would be to definitely get a wheelchair and/or scooter. I know what you mean about the looks, I definitely got them since I was only 30 at the time and was in decent shape because of hockey and had no visible injuries. In addition, my wife needed knee surgery later that year so when I felt like walking for a bit she would hop in the chair, which I am sure caused more dirty looks. But you know what, forget em...it is more important that you enjoy your vacation than what other people might think, and I will admit I used to be one of those people who might look at others funny, but that trip has totally changed my perspective on it.

BTW, had surgery in May of that year, it was 3 years ago now and I feel much better, would probably be playing hockey again if I had time.

Do you think anyone who goes back to their room at night even thinks about you? I mean that saw you on and ECV? NOOOO get the scooter enjoy your trip. Don't be miserable because you are scared what other's think they can only care if they PAY for your trip. I use one and I haven't had any issues from people and I look healthy and pooh sized.

Next, if you need surgery don't be afraid. Best thing I ever did for myself also my 65 year old BIL just had surgery after putting it off for a year with shots that caused his nerves to gel together and he will never be the same from those shots. I never heard of such a thing until the Docs at Duke showed him his xrays and told him it was from those shots and not reversible. So now his back is soooo much better 3 months out but he can no longer do his manly duty and sometimes has trouble knowing when he has to go to the bathroom. Don't mess around with those shots if you can help it.
