Have a Comment on HOW MUCH Food on Dining Plan......YUMMY, But....

Do you think one could say that consuming more food than your body needs is wasteful?
No. Consuming more food than your body needs is unhealthy, not wasteful. That's why our recommendation is to not order anything you don't have any interest in eating, and to not worry at all about leaving food over if you just want a taste of something.

Congrats on your weight loss, by the way!!! Great job!
Thanks!

I truly don't get these threads about "too much food". It's a snack(which can be as minimal as a bottle of water), breakfast OR lunch (not both), thus skipping one meal off the bat, and dinner with what appear to be scant portions. To reiterate, noone needs to order the appetizer or dessert. What am I missing? I am currently stock piling snacks for my children because I am certain this will not be an adequate amount of food for them (and I bought the adult plan for my 8 and 9 year olds!) As far as my 6 yo, a child's meal is a joke so I will have to supplement his meals somehow. I know it would help if we went to buffets, but we are not planning on any. :confused3 So, where is all this exta food?

I agree but my understanding the dining plan isn't intended to cover all your meals. So for my kids we would have to buy breakfast or lunch out of pocket. My kids need to eat 3 times a day plus snacks like fruit. They may not eat all the food in front of them in one sitting but they will need to eat at least 3 times a day. I'm not carrying around a doggie bag from breakfast or lunch.

I'll tell you what you are missing. We have 4 kids, 3 are considered adults at WDW. When we eat out at home we sometimes order an appetizer for all six of us to share. Very rarely, we will order one dessert for all six of us to share (we let each person get their own entree, so we are usually too full to get ANY dessert!) If it was just dh and I, we would get two appetizers and two desserts (on the DDP) and taste both and be okay. HOWEVER, I can't even imagine getting SIX of each brought to the table! That just sounds crazy to me! I understand you are not forced to order all of that, but when I compare the $$$ the plan would cost us vs what we usually spend (one cs and one ts per day) the plan is not a good deal for us. We would certainly take it if it were free, but we will not pay for it. One dd is a vegetarian, one is very picky, I am always on a diet, and even dh does not want too many big meals during a trip (and he is average weight, I am the only fat one.) So, it looks like a lot of food to us! YMMV!!!

Agree! I remember as a kid we would have a BIG holiday meal and then my dad would say "Now we don't need dinner." WRONG! I have to eat several times a day but can not eat that much at one sitting. Like I said, I am fat, but I never clean my plate at any restaurant! My dcs are the same way. Now dh, he is kinda like my dad. He will often skip breakfast or lunch and then make up for it at dinner....not the rest of us though! We like cereal or something in the room, cs lunch, and ts dinner most days (with an afternoon snack too!)

I thought the same thing, but when you go and see how much food it really is, I bet you'll change your mind. :thumbsup2

Last year, we (4 of us) ate as much as we wanted, never bought any extra food, except maybe one or two snacks not included on the plan (per person, not per day), and *still* had 2 TS, 2 CS and 12 snack credits left at the end of our 8-day trip. It is hard to eat a snack at all if you've eaten one or two desserts in a day.

We did buy our own water, though, as that seemed to be a colossal waste of a snack credit.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

It always makes me giggle when I read how much food is on the dining plan. People don't *have* to order an appetizer, entree & dessert at table service, you're allowed to, but no one is making you and if you're worried about wasting it, don't get it. Same with counter service, you don't have to order dessert, but you can. I know people feel entitled and want to get 'what they paid for' but really you're making out like a bandit anyways and if you don't get the app and dessert you're still saving $ at best and breaking even at worst. We use the plan and just order what we want and love having it prepaid.

*disclaimer- all forms of the term 'you' are meant in the general collective and not aimed at any particular poster.

::yes:: Completely agree with this. We bought the DP last year and have again this year. We only order what we know we will eat. The option is there for an app or dessert, doesn't mean we have to have it.

Yes, I agree. I have no problem buying the additional food and am very happy with the dining plan. I just don't get all the griping about too much food. Don't most children eat 3 meals a day plus snacks? :confused3

It's the one time we get to really splurge, and order and taste appetizers & desserts we wouldn't normally have ordered at all.....
So in my opinion, my DH and I will order 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts, heck we paid for it, just in advance. So Yes, I want my money's worth.
HOWEVER, we won't finish 2 apps, 2 whole entrees and 2 desserts.......I think we will be full, but we will have tasted & sampled delicious items we wouldn't make or get back home.....
Therefore, some food will be tossed away.
We do not care for buffets at all, and I am really looking forward to the wonderful places we have our ADR's at.
AND with all the snack choices I have seen listed (another thread), it seems like we could have a lite breakfast, then a decent good sized meal with a counter service place, the a good sit down meal for dinner.
WE DO NOT eat that much at home, rarely eat 3 meals a day, for us anyways, its too much food.....
Let the debate & opinions continue !!! :listen: :tilt: :goofy: :donald: :fish:

If anyone wants an idea as to what happens to the food at WDW, watch for an episode of a show called "Dirty Jobs" that airs on the Discovery Channel. The particular episode will be all about Las Vegas (the guide will likely list something about Lance Burton), airs often on saturdays in a marathon of the show, and will have a segment on what happens to the buffet food at the casinos. I'm sure it's about what happens to the food at Disney.

Tip: DVR it if you just ate. :lmao:

Then you shouldn't purchase the plan. I would think that would be expected: If it is a good deal for you, then patronize it. Otherwise, don't. Am I missing something? How does "too much food" come into that? :confused3
