Ugh, had some people do this on a couple of dark rides my last trip. Keep in mind I hadn't been in 20 years. Had no idea if I'd ever be able to come back. Any lights on a dark ride distracts my eyes and I'm not at the park to gawk at peoples's phones.

Please consider teaming up with another parent and using rider switch perhaps.

No..... The screen is on like a I originally stated. I am saying I don't put on a show or videos or games. The only purpose is to get my always on screen to be on for that light.

Grab a small wrist size glow bracelet if you need a bit of light. Sorry, not sorry, you're getting thrown under the bus about this but as you can tell this is a very hot topic and many guests are getting beyond frustrated when other guests ruin the experience just because of their own special issue that seems to justify it to them.

Personally I do wish Disney would step up enforcement about this.

I fail to see what one has to do with the other, but i'll bite.

Blocking a walkway? I didn't see anyone not getting through, but he should move if that happened.
The other two issues had no effect on other guests.

To be honest very surprised everyone is so against it. I think it might have to do with how/where I use it vs others possibly.

The location in which I am talking about every ride vehicle is going straight backwards so there is zero chance it "catches" your eye or "distorts" the ride effects for anyone else.

Video of on HM (low light so its easier to see) where its used for roughly 20 second (where you start to spin towards the clock).

There are many other wonderful, more age appropriate attractions at MK.

Just wanted to add Figment is not age appropriate for a toddler? Nemo either? All because of short 10-15 second moments across a 5-10 min ride? Which goes back to my point of sound levels being too high on these attractions although I must have great hearing because other people like the blown out sounds on rides.

Which could not be turned off. It also would be non-directional and go everywhere as opposed to specifically in the direction I am pointing. So lets be consistent here. If you want zero light that's fine. The only ride which I used light on which others possibly could see was Figment but since we took up a full ride vehicle it would have been out of someones side of their eye but I doubt they even noticed.

I would also suspect my AOD actually puts off less light than a glow in the dark bracelet.

For you which is good to know but those words never crossed my mind ever in all the times we have been to Disney. This last time was the very first time with kids ever. So I personally think you are being over dramatic but you are allowed to have a different opinion than I do and I will take that in to account in the future. I also saw people outright using their phones on the rides at times which I think more so is what people are upset with as I doubt you would have even known I had my phone out on HM.

The only exception I would understand is if the ride got stuck. Even I started to get fidgety in the dark tunnel of the people mover when we were stuck. (i still think something "else" was in there with us...)

I wouldn't mind if someone had their phone on while stuck.

The light from the phone bothers others. If you don't want to take away from the experience of others, the phone must stay off.

I can’t imagine how parents in the 30 or so years before the prevalence of phones managed to comfort their children without the comforting glow of a cell phone on a dark ride.

It’s almost like they let us ride through with our eyes shut and live to tell the tale.

I do not want to "enter a fray", but I will just comment briefly (not like me, right? LOL). Not saying anybody that has commented, or the OP does this, but when somebody (and it's usually always MANY somebodies these days!) turns on their phone, especially suddenly, in a movie theater,it usually scares the BEJEEPERS outta me! And I'm not a scarish person, but I think that would be even moreso in a scary ride/movie!! And I'm old, and my heart can't HANDLE it! (Seriously - I do have hypertension - and while not saying this has any ill, or lasting effect on me, I do feel my heart racing, so who knows if it could or not?) Just sayin' how it makes ME feel.

I consider flashlights in this same category and I recommend that you do not use them in attractions, shows or queues to preserve the experience for all Guests.

If you think your little one is sensitive to the dark, you may want to spend some time before your vacation watching videos of attractions and shows you think you will enjoy. This will take away the element of surprise and may help your little one feel more secure during your trip. This is also a great way to help your little one choose the attractions that they would like to ride. Finally, you may want to consider bringing a pair of headphones for your child to wear when they are feeling insecure. We bring headphones for my youngest to wear because he can startle easily and I have found that his headphones allow him to cover his eyes with his hands while his headphones cover his ears so he doesn't have to worry about scary sights or sounds when he's feeling insecure or scared!

Worse than this kind of cell phone usage is the people taking poor quality flash pictures on their phones on dark rides that they’ll probably never look at again. Shoutout to the couple we rode Navi River Journey with.

This has me thinking there should be a show on "If you are doing this you might be annoying others at WDW".

I have the start of a list to start adding to and going through:

• Cell phones for any reason on in dark experiences (TIL)
• Rude to CMs or Guests
• Not knowing your order before getting to the checkout at counter service
• Spreading out on seats leaving a "open seat" between your group members
• Not going to the end of the row
• Talking of any sort during a show (including whispering)
• Rejoining your group in line
• Saving spots around quick service prior to getting your food ordered
• Not merging every other person/group
• Reserving multiple ADRs for the same day but cancelling all but 1 right before the cancellation window

There’s been decades of children who ride Disney dark rides without the glow of cell phones and without incident. I disagree that your reason for using the phone is necessary, it’s entitled behaviour that is distracting to others.

My comment was not intended to be a “back in my day...” one, but pointing out the silliness of needing to use the phone.

Except as I stated multiple times in this thread from my point of view I don't see how anyone could even see me when it was being used (posted a video of the section of the ride). On top of that never even knew it was an issue to just in general have a phone on during a ride (although I only have ever used my phone for what I described on this last trip).

Me not believing that cell phones usage ruins the ride experience does not make me entitled. It's called having a different opinion. While others came in with their opinion you tried to act like somehow I am a terrible parent for using a cell phone for lighting. Instead of basically everyone else's response of it being distracting or ruining the experience.
