My understanding is that the current Space Mountain overlay (Star Wars) will get changed out for a Halloween one soon. Historically, does the ride go back down around Nov 1 to change it out again? If so, how long does it stay down? We are coming November 6-9 and would love to see the Star Wars overlay, since WDW doesn't have one, but I'm guessing they don't get it switched out in just a week.

I also know Haunted Mansion gets the Nightmare before Christmas theming for Halloween - does that stay up until Christmas? Or does it, too, get pulled down right after Halloween?

We are WDW vets visiting DL in November and I am learning that DL news/hours don't seem to be released as early as WDW info. It's been hard to find firm information but I may just not know where to look.

Thanks!!

the nightmare before christmas overlay stays up through the christmas season. space mountain will be closed for a couple of weeks to remove the ghost galaxy overlay, but i'm not sure if the stars wars overlay will return or if it's going to go back to normal. i don't think they've announced an official end date for season of the force, so hyperspace might come back.

Agree with smarlabelprint, the change over on Space is usually just a few days. However, last year it was closed longer. Of course it needed a small refurb and then opened as Hyperspace Mountain. I wouldn't plan on it being Hyperspace Mountain in November though. It's very plausible that it's going back to regular Space Mountain. It's supposed to be a temporary overlay. I believe it should have ended already but was so popular it's still there. Still worth riding if it's open as regular Space during your trip. It is not the same ride as WDW, just the same name and theme.

I did really like Hyperspace Mountain, but kind of missed the fun 80s music of the original. I assumed it was basically a teaser for Star Wars land/Force Awakens promo, and they'll have some sort of rollercoastery ride in the new land.

We're there October 27th to November 5th, so we will get to see the Ghost Galaxy version on our first trip to DL. I hope if it goes down to remove the overlay on the 1st it reopens by the 4th as either the regular Space Mountain or Hyperspace so we can see two different versions.:)

Today I asked three separate CMs in Tomorrowland and got three different answers. One that was working at Hyperspace Mountain told me that it would close on Sept. 9 for the change to GG. Now: as to whether it would then later be returned to the Star Wars theme, it doesn't seem that anyone knows yet.

My guess is it would go back to Hyperspace Mountain because Star Wars Rogue One comes out 12/16. But the classic is awesome on its own. :darth::chewy:

In the past, SM has gone down for just a few days right after Halloween. Looking at 2013 and 2014 on wdwinfo.com calendar, Space Mt was only down 1 or 2 days from what I can pick up. And that seems to match up with my memory. And that sounds about right. It shouldn't take long to change a projection machine to play a different set of stars/ghosts/ships.

Last year was different. Because Season of the Force wasn't going to start until the third full week of Nov, SM was down for over two weeks. That was a major bummer because we were there during the second week. I'm sure it took 1 week max to actually make the projections work, but it had to fit in with the time of the celebration. We shouldn't have that problem this year unless there's some new celebration that will mess everything up again.

On the DL park schedule, they have SM closed Sept. 6-8 (Tues through Thurs) for the overlay. Halloween Time begins *on* Sept. 9, so that's when it reopens. HM closes Aug 22.

Last year, the SM overlay took a lot longer because they installed Hyperspace Mtn equipment along with normal projection equipment. All they had to do after Halloween was to change out show program and the marque out front.

Before last year, it took longer to take off the GG overlay because they uninstall the projector equipment. So, a change back to "original" might mean a longer shutdown after Halloween.

Let's hope that's not the case. I guess we have to wait, which is the hardest part. C'mon Disney! 3 months notice on refurbs please.

What's the "untheme" time period for Haunted Mansion? Our park days will likely be 1/9, 1/10, and 1/11 and I'd hate to miss the DL Haunted Mansion.

It all depends on when the Holiday season ends. The Haunted Mansion usually closes right after the Holiday season ends (or the next Monday) and re-opens about 12-days later. Last year, the Holiday season ended on Sunday, Jan 10 and Haunted Mansion closed on Mon, Jan 11 and re-opened on Fri, Jan 22.

Funny, I will be there from Sept 5th - 9th. I hope to get to ride Hyperspace on the 5th and then Ghost Galaxy on the 9th. Sadly it will be closed for the days in between. But I guess being able to ride both versions is pretty cool too. I'll report back after our trip. :)

Any more info on when SM might reopen after Halloween? We will be there Friday Nov. 4th and we missed it last year during that same week due to Star Wars. Thanks!

Historically, it's only been closed one day to remove the SMGG overlay and convert it back to regular Space. However, I don't think they've said whether it'll go back to regular Space or HyperSpace Mtn after Halloween.
