Haunted Mansion is going down for its refurb on Monday, August 14th for the Holiday overlay installation. The refurb continues through August 31.

Haunted Mansion Holiday opens Friday, September 1st.

Ughhhhh…we will be at DL for the first time this summer for 5 days with our last day being Aug.31. Any chance they open it early or is the Sep.1 day set in stone?

September 1 is the first day of Halloween Time. That day is set in stone. I have never known DL to open HMH early. It is possible not probable. Refurbs are always subject to change.

HI.

I arrive on August 9th - HM 54th birthday. It is one of my favorites. I specifically booked before August 14th/15th because I knew it would go down. I will have at least 5 days of HM during my 8 day stay at GCH/DL.

I am so sorry for those who will miss it in August.

Not gonna lie as someone who will probably only visit DL once (WDW vet), Haunted Mansion closing in mid-August for a Halloween/Christmas overlay for September is ridiculous. Especially since the Halloween party in DL is at DCA. I do think the theming overlay is cool and all, but maybe Disney should start the overlay after summer.

Many people complain about the HM going down in summer. Disney starts Halloween Time before Labor Day the traditional end of the summer season.

Honestly, the overlay is now over 20 years old. WHile it is nice, it is time for new ideas to fix up the HM for the fall and Halloween....creepy new effects and a dressing up the mansion in halloween decorations...a Halloween "birthday" cake for the ball room scene.

It is time for new ideas.

I'm not a Haunted Mansion Holiday hater, per-say, but I'm definitely a person who is not a big Nightmare Before Christmas fan, but a HUGE Haunted Mansion nerd and thinks the overlay goes on way too long. And last year it was even worse because it lasted until the end of January. That was FIVE months of HMH instead of Haunted Mansion and it was too much! NBC is very popular, I get it, but it seems silly to have the one ~spooky~ attraction be something else during Halloween time.

If they absolutely MUST do HMH, then I think it should go up in November, come down in early January. You still have Oogie Boogie and Jack/Sally stuff for Halloween, but leave the overlay for Christmas time.

I... uhh... may have strong feelings about this. (But I'm sure the NBC fanatics will tell me that it should be NBC themed 12 months a year. LOL. They have strong feelings too.)

Honestly the HMH overlay is great but it is up for too long and after 20+ years is getting well stale. Disneyland should have the regular HM for the Halloween. But the overlay up in November.

I am a big NBC fan, and I agree with you. Honestly, I think it's time for Jack to get his own, permanent ride. He's certianly popular enough.

AGREED. The fact that the movie has sustained that level of popularity over 30 years without making sequels or anything really says a lot about how well it's own year-round attraction would do.

Build it in DCA. DCA needs more Dark rides there. put it next to Monsters.

Haunted Mansion Overlay is only for 3ish months, the regular haunted mansion is here for 9 months. It's not that long. I like both themes, and honestly you know which one is more of a hit with wait times for haunted mansion (the holiday overlay is the more popular one) so it being here for a few months makes sense.

last year it was actually 4 1/2 months (sept 1st to mid Jan)
