Has there been any official word yet if this is happening for 2008? I don't see the HM scheduled to be down for refurb in September so far, though I know it's a little early to list anything for fall.

My DD and her best friend are HUGE Jack Skellington (and Tim Burton) fans and they will be sorely disappointed :sad1: if they don't get to see the overlay.

It's a little early to be listed. They do it every year though. Usually it goes down for overlay in the 3rd week of September I believe, and opens the mid to late October then stays open thru January 4 or 5th.

In '07, it opened with the overlay Sept 21.

In '06 we were there in early October, and it was open.

In '05 we were there Sept 22ish and it was still closed.

There was discussion in '07 that it opened early because Thanksgiving was "early". This year T'giving is "later" (or as I call it, "on time"), so maybe it will open later again...

Just gotta wait for the calendar, or check wdwinfo.com for info but do NOT right now, b/c it has info from LAST YEAR. It's not obvious that it's from last year until you click on the their link to the calendar (which obviously isn't correct) and then down the page they specifically reference '07. So if you check "them" (aka the Dis) be sure the year is right before getting too happy!

The overlay will no doubt be brought out again for 2008. I'm personally not a huge fan of the holiday overlay but the only thing that keeps me even the slightest bit interested in it is that they usually add/refine/improve upon it most years. Hopefully they will have some new goodies to add to it this year as well.

I always look forward to the traditinal HM's return after the holidays and often make a trip to the park just to celebrate it's return.

We love the overlay! It goes down early September and it up and open very late September usually. So it will be open when you go in October.

I'm with you DoomBugger...it's definitely NOT my favorite thing - especially when you factor in how long it's closed leading up to the overlay, and following the overlay to return it to its' "proper" setting. Since we relocated a few years back, whenever I travel west that is the one truly must-do for me (always been my fav), and if I happen to travel and be on-site while it's down I'm always bummed out.

I know many people like or even love the overlay - I'm just not one of them.

I was at MK last year on Sept 14, the day HM there reopend. I will be at DL in October and am so looking forward to JS overlay on HM. That and Mr. Toad are the main reasons I gotta get back to DL.

Oooh, we were at WDW on 9/15 last yr, the day after you and HM reopened from an extended rehab! It was nice to see them put in the portrait corridor at MK to better resemble the DL original. The fact that they finally got rid of those jumbo spiders that really added nothing to the show was terrific...the endless staircases are much, much better. I do wish that element could be added at DL, but the spacing in the show buildings is not quite the same.

I love Mr. Toad - that's a fun one. I love how when you are riding through the hell sequence, it gets extra warm!

We were there too last year at that time!! I was surprised how short the lines were when it re-opened (at least the two times I rode it, the wait was under 30 minutes).

I cannot wait to see Haunted Mansion without the overlay! I grew up going to Disneyland but it has been 30 years since I've seen it in it's original state and I can hardly wait for our May trip so that I can see it as it should be. The Halloween/Christmas overlay is cool but DH and DS have never seen it as the original because our last two family trips have been in October. The main reason I convinced DH to go again in May was so we could see the Haunted Mansion as it should be!

I like your dedication to the greatest dark ride ever!

The overlay is less like a haunted house and more like a Tim Burton fun house to me.

Thanks, Doombugger and Stopher1. I love the Haunted Mansion and can't wait to share the original version with my family!

I agree :) The first time I rode HM was with the overlay, and I was kind of disappointed, but I am not really a fan of the nightmare before christmas.

If your first time was with the overlay, then that is too bad. The HM is great though with the Holiday overlay...it made it new, cool, and exciting. But it's important to know and love the original first, then you can approach the change as something different. They got a sound alike Ghost Host to record the new HM Holiday's voice as well as Madame Leota's daughter to be the new crystal ball head!

I am a die hard fan of the HM, but I have to say I LOVE HMH too! I always go for opening and closing to say "hello" and "goodbye" to Jack. I think its a festive way to spice up an already amazing ride.

I also have to say that there is one effect that I wish they would rework for the standard ride. I think with the angle of the "door room" that the addition of the man eating wreath grabbing the lamp adds need height and depth to the area. I think its great.

But I have to add I am a huge Nightmare fan so the mix of two of my favorite things makes me a happy girl:woohoo:

Thanks for all of the replies! :)

HM is one of my all time faves anywhere - I'm looking forward to seeing HMH but would never want Disney to make it permanent, even though our whole family likes Tim Burton.

The changes at WDW HM are great, but the original in DL still can't be beat. Same goes for PotC.

I am so excited! I can not wait to see this! I love the HM & have been on it many, many times but have never seen it as the HMH (BIG Nightmare fan here!). This year will be our first time & I am really looking forward to it!
