Haunted Mansion Holiday Removal = Rehab/Closing?

I see that the Haunted Mansion's Holiday removal will be occurring during my visit to Disneyland/DCA (Feb 3-5). Now this appears under rehabs and closings but I wasn't sure if it really means it closed or if it's actually just having its holiday decor removed whilst still running.

Any insight would be grand. Thanks!

When they remove the holiday on it's a small world and haunted mansion they close the rides. Haunted mansion is having it's holiday removed and a minor refurb. It will be closed jan. 18 through march 5.

Haunted Mansion is always closed this time of year. My dh even said that with as many people as work there, they should be able to get things done a LOT faster than that. Why does it take so long to do refurbs anyway? No other amusement parks that I've been to close rides for a month or more at a time. Oh well....

There's a lot of Overlay to be removed! I was amazed at just how wonderful the whole thing was! :thumbsup2

They are not JUST removing the overlay this time. They are doing a refurb at the same time hence the longer down time.

I've been to Disneyland easily 50+ times, so I know what the decor looks like. My point was that even though there is a lot, it shouldn't be closed for that long. It's always closed for this long when they remove it, so it's not just because they're doing rehab on it also. We went mid Feb last year and it was still closed for the holiday removal. My dh and I simply think that they have enough employees there that it shouldn't take weeks to take the decor down, and it shouldn't take weeks to rehab it. Unless they're totally rebuilding something, which they never do. That's all I was saying. It takes much longer than any other amusement park.

I agree, dopey. Construction companies can build small buildings in 2 months, why 2 months for refurb the ceiling and taking down the overlay? :confused3

On the same topic: does anyone have a pic of th HM w/ the holiday overlay? Never seen it!

Lynzer,

Some pics I just took 2 weeks ago when I was visiting DL (first time :-) ) are located at

Wow Roman,
What a wonderful two weeks you just had! DL, Hawaii and a birthday to boot party:

Great pix, too. Happy belated birthday!

Has anyone heard anything about Haunted Mansion Holiday for next year?

It seems every year there there are rumors it's the last year DL will have it. We will be at DL end of October 06 and really hoping DB and his family will get to see HMH!

Any info is appreciated!

Thanks for the bday wishes, Lulubelle!

Boo72,
I have read a rumor (on jimhillmedia.com) that Tim Burton is getting tired of the whole Haunted Mansion Holiday thing... It was mostly in the context that it would almost definately NEVER come to Walt Disney World, however the overall impression the article gave was any given year could be the last year they are allowed to do the overlay.

Obviously it's a rumor, and I'm sure now that Eisner is gone, Disney will be trying to make nice with everyone that ME ticked off :-)

Last time HMH went down for refurb they added a ton of effects. It's not like they can pull down the decorations like you or I pull down our holiday stuff. There are delicate things in there that they can break. They have to reprogram a ton of stuff to go back to regular HM. IMHO they get it up and running pretty fast for all the detail that they have to take care of.

I was told by two CM's in the NBC Shop that they will be closing down and expanding it to accommodate POC! They also indicated that it was great that I brought my DD down to see the overlay because they implied that this is definately the last year!

Please take anything a CM says with a grain of salt. There are no other rumblings of the NBC shop closing, and PotC is only getting new anamatronics (per reliable sites). As far as HMH being in it's last year, every year is supposedly it's last year.

I know, but when you are dealing with a teen who Absolutely Loves NBC, you can't take the chance!LOL We took our chances and went down for Xmas! We came, We Saw, She's a Happy Camper!

It would be nice if they did continue it! It's Fabulous!
