Hello all,

Anyone have any info if the HM Holiday is happening this year. I heard a scary rumor that it is not, and we are making our first trip to see it this year.

Anyone have any credible info?:confused3

Thanks for your help!!

The disneyland website has shown that Jack etc will be in the HM for Halloweentime starting 9/25.

And in their Holidaytime info, they state that Jack etc will be in HM for the Sandy Claws stuff too.

Mouseplanet manages to get good info, and they state that it will be closed 9/10, opening 9/25 with the overlay for the start of Halloweentime.

And, of course, HMH should be up for the rest of the year, I imagine (unless DLR has some tricks up their sleeve to fool us!).

Plus, if you come in late September/October, you will get the benefit of seeing the new Space Mountain Halloween overlay too!

Space Mtn overlay??? Sheesh, I'm gone for a week and look what happens.....LOL

You guys didn't see that thread yet? Yes! Space Mountain Halloween overlay is a-comin'!! Possibly Halloweentime fireworks too!

Kerri, did you see that someone started a thread with your name in the title on the Community section? I think some Taco Bell packets were received!

I remember reading rumors a couple of years ago about HMH not coming back and it was there as normal. Apparently these rumors popped up long before I read that one. I wouldn't worry about the rumor until a reputable source with some track record reports it.

Besides all that, I just can't see Disney stopping such a popular attraction, especially given how well Nightmare Before Christmas stuff sells. I think that attraction has probably introduced people to that film who may otherwise have never seen it.

I did not Sherry, I'll have to go find that. :) And I have not seen that thread, is it here or in the community section?

The best thing about the overlay is that most years they refine it and improve on it or add new things... I hope 2009 is one of those years.

I think the rumor sprung up because Doombugs like myself are very much so hoping that an old friend returns to the Mansion for it's fortieth anniversary event on 9/9/09.

Hey all- question on this:

my kids are scared of Haunted Mansion. Took the oldest (6) and she wasn't crazy freaked but the heads popping up from behind the tombstones got her good at the end and she refuses to go on it again. Fair enough. I would never push her. But my question is: is the Halloween and/or Xmas themed mansion more small kid appropriate or is it safe to say that if the original mansion scares your kids, chances are, the rethemed ones will as well?

Thanks!

Spidey

Well....hmmmm....I wonder what my esteemed DIS-ers think about the answer to that question. I remember how terrified I was of the HM as a kid and I HATED all the ghosts popping up from behind the tombstones. It took me years to get past that.

I tend to think that the Haunted Mansion Holiday version would maybe be less scary, only because it is much brighter and more colorful than the regular spooky HM. Totally different music and all new stuff to look at. You don't notice things popping up and out so much because there is so much going on. Unless your kids get scared by the sight of Jack Skellington and some of the weird creatures in Nightmare Before Christmas, I would say that this one may be less scary and more kind of zany. There really isn't anything menacing happening anywhere. But it is a tough call for small kids, though.

The overlay is definitely more kid orientated and less "scary."

If you can I'd have her watch the movie and see how she handles that. If she doesn't find it scary I'd say go for it. If she likes it it may even make her excited to try the different version. I know my daughter was scared of the original but she liked the Nightmare one. It's all black lights and glowing like the Oogie Boogie scene from the movie.

Hmm, the first time we went to DL DD9 was 6, I don't remember her being scared but I do know that she likes the NBC overlay much much much better than she likes the normal HM. She loves Jack Skellington and his dog Zero. lol :)

The concern this year of it not happening was the 40th anniversary on 9/9. But they are going to close it down the next day 9/10 and work their butts off so that it's all ready to go on the 25th.

Well, that's good news. I love the overlay. If we go during Halloween, there's a lot to look forward to. :yay:
