How exciting! I'm really thinking about it! It could be my Birthday gift to myself this year!

Anyway, one of our DISboard members read some info somewhere (Doombuggies.com, I think it was) that leads us to believe (though we do not have 100% confirmation) that DLR will focus on the HM 40th anniversary in 2009 and skip the HMH overlay. On Sept 9, 2009, that would normally be a time when they would have the HM shut down for the overlay process, so unless they are going to do the overlay after that 9-9-09 event and get it up before Christmas, then it seems very possible that 2009 may not see the HMH overlay. I know many DIS'ers will be pleased with that, as they prefer the original version! But just in case anyone who loves the overlay is planning a Fall and/or Winter trip to DLR to see the HMH, they should be aware that it MAY not be there this year and they should keep checking with DLR on the status of it if it hasn't been announced on the website. I guess we will know as the year progresses what DLR plans to do, but it seems logical that IF they are truly going to hype the HM anniversary in '09, they may not do the overlay because it would detract from the HM in its original state!

Oh very true Sherry! Having HMH right after the anniversary would definitely shorten the time of the 40th Anniversary celebration to... A little more than 3 weeks. Of course, that's assuming that they do anything fanciful to the attraction itself.
In the previous thread, I remember someone speculating (Disney Dreams, I think?) that on 09-09-09 there might just be some sort of a party shindig in front of the mansion, with like a ghost story and entertainment and such, something I'm sure many fans will love; the HM's vague and mysterious story coming to life!.... Well, maybe not the ENTIRE story coming to life, but at least this part where she marries again is concrete!

We're going to be there the weekend of August 8th, which is the day they're going to be having the evening with the artist. But I'd rather go to the one that is actually IN the HM, I don't care about meeting the artist!

Can you visit Disneyland on 09/09/09? If you could that would be wonderful. That way you could attend the 40 th Anniversary event for the Haunted Mansion. The packages begin to go on sale later this month. The dates differ, according to the package.

Here's another 40th anniversary HM tie-in that surfaced today.

For those who are into / getting into pin trading / collecting...

The first Sunday of every month Disney comes out with a "gift with purchase" pin. It is limited edition, available when you spend $25 on pins and/or pin accessories. Every month it changes and usually there is a theme for a few months. The last 6 have been Tiki Room themed (each playfully featuring one bird: Jose, Pierre, Michael, Fritz, Gigi, and Colette).

Well, today the gift with purchase pin for January debuted.

At first glance I thought, "What? Why on Earth is Minnie a bride?!?!" Then it hit me! This month's gift with purchase pin is Minnie as Constance from HM. There will be 6 HM themed gift with purchase pins (Jan - Jun, 2009).

Those pins will be sweet! I was loving the Tiki Room pins and may have to keep my eyes on these too. DH and I have been debating on attending the 9/9/09 event in some capacity. It seems expensive and you aren't guaranteed a chance to buy any of the, sure to be awesome, loot. Of course, by the time we make up our minds, the event will be sold out, and we'll be kicking ourselves! That's just how we roll

Just found out about this today. The wife and I were thinking of skipping our WDW trip this year and going to DL sometime around our anniversary (11/3) instead. As soon as I saw this I asked if she would mind celebrating our anni 2 months early. The big choice is going to be whether or not its worth it to take one of the higher packages with the hotel, or stay off property. Guess I'll have to look at what other packages may be available to add onto this. I'm thinking arrive on the 9th and stay til the 12th.

Dang how did I miss the date so clearly! My due date is August 11, I guess I am going to have to skip the event

I have to say I actually think the prices aren't that bad, especially since the larger package gets you a stay at GCH, which is almost $475 a night to begin with! Having the different levels helps too.

I have done one of the events (not the high level since they weren't offering anything super cool for that one) and I have to say I was super impressed. The gifts we received were really nice and well thought out. Other events have also had some great items too.

Overall I have not heard of anyone having a bad time at one of these events and I am thrilled to see them doing one for the HM again!

I also want to add I think if DL does lose HMH this year it might hurt the park. The overlay brings in a lot of people for the holiday and draws large crowds that the standard just can't seem to at that time of year. I think unless they do a big refurb adding new features to the HM before the holidays, I think that it might cause issues for longer lines on other rides and possibly some canceled trips. I am curious to see what they come up with!

I'm hoping to be able to go to this event, but it all depends on where I end up for law school and my financial status (I'm hoping to get into UCI because for their first class [Fall 2009] they're hoping to give all the students free tuition...and Irvine is only 15 mins. south of DL ).
