Haunted House Ideas

Once again I find myself organizing this years base haunted house. I can't come up with a good idea for the final room. It's a huge crypt that leads into a graveyard in the backyard. I need a big "payoff". The rest of the house is really cool...but will only remember the last room. I don't want to have a lot of cool effects in the house, and not have anything at the end, but I'm kind of short of ideas for the finale. It has to be loud, bright, and obnoxious enough to scare people straight out of the house through the exit.

Does anyone have thoughts?

Send a pm to FroggyinARK, he makes a haunted house every year. He might have some ideas.

Ia'm working in the #1 rated haunted theme attraction this year (I do it every year) and all our houses are themed differently. If its a crypt,I'd suggest fog, shovelers who scrape the ground, and ofcourse the ever popular CHAINSAWS!. *grin* Not immignative, but certainly rememberable

Chainsaws are so overdone though...it's like the finale to every haunted house I've ever been to...

Use the fog as someone suggested. Is it a LARGE area? Could you have a couple of different things going on in different areas? Do you have alot of man-power?

Make coffins and have people sit up in them, come up with a non-flamable lighting method.

In a separate area you can do vampires or banshees. Do they walk or ride a wagon? How 'bout a headless horseman????

If you need supplies go to orientaltrading.com They should have a fog machine and such.

How much room and lighting do you have.

A great idea would be to have everyone stand in the middle of the "graveyard", turn out the houselights, and then the "house" lights turn on to strobes (and fog) and have a few zombies come running out of the coffins surrounding the group banging chains and pipes and stuff!!!!

if you're doing it for kids - I've always loved the "cooked cold spaghetti = brains bowl" and the "olives = eyes bowl" that that they stick their hands it.

I like da zombies banging the pipes thing...that might be just loud enough. The area is about 10 by 12 feet. I have foggers, access to lighting, and almost unlimited funds this year. Just need that final killer idea to send them off with...

Do they have a guide or do they walk through themselves?

I ask because I run a haunted house as well and can give you a few more ideas.

Awesome thread. I´ve never done a haunted house but we are maybe planning one now, so I´ll probably stop by here often.

They'll have two hosts taking them through, one host take them through the upstairs, and another host takes them through the downstairs, and out through the crypt.

Perfect!!!!!!

So what you can do is have 1 host set them up in the middle of the graveyard, which sets them up perfectly, and then they tell them stand here and say a little chant (come up with something funny/crazy for them to chant), then after the third time is when the "houselights" go out and the strobes and fog come on. Once this happens the zombies come after them trapping them and circling them before chasing them out with the pipes and chains.

The strobes are a great idea. Creates alot of confusion and it is hard to see in them!!! Use 2 or 3 strobes to get a great effect.

Also think about "black lights" too. You may can use those somewhere.

I hope you already have on hand or have already ordered most of your supplies. It's getting close......
