do you take your hat off for the national anthem?

i don't. and apparently on the cb that's enough to get me crucified and exiled, for being disrespectful to my country.:confused3 who knew? lol.

but really. do you take your hat off for the national anthem?

firstly i cant even remember the last time i heard the national anthem!
(probably in the summer at my BFs lacrosse game, actually that's a lie, it was when i went to an NHL game)
i dont wear a hat that often either, so neither of those apply to me. haha
when i go to my BFs lacrosse games they play the anthem sometimes and everyone stands up but i'd say about only 60% of people take their hats off.

i was just thinking about it actually and i'm not sure i'd take off my hat.
i feel like hats are different for guys & girls for some reason. when i wear a hat it's an accessory the same as a hairband would be.

im not sure ive ever seen a woman in a hat during the national anthem before, but all the people i see taking their hats off are men. but again, i have no idea if ive ever even SEEN a woman wearing a hat before/during/after the national anthem lol.

i dont know why i have this gender-biased hat thing, haha. i think it depends on the type of hat. if i was wearing a baseball cap (which i never would be lol) but i'd probably take it off, if i was wearing like a beret type hat thing (you know, those saggy berets that are in style now...dunno if they have a specific name??) but i dont think i'd take that off. dunno why though haha

I usually do but it doesnt matter to me. I just do it because everyone does it.

i wear knitted hats (def. not a baseball cap) and yes, its part of my hair when i'm wearing it.:confused3 i wouldn't take out a pony tail, i wouldn't take out a head band. i'm not taking off my hat. :confused3

ya that's my thinking too i think, baseball hat, sure i'd take it off (though i'd never wear one most likely :cool2:) but a knitted hat, or a hat that takes time to take off/put on, no probably wouldn't.
that thread kind of makes me laugh a bit, i just DONT get how leaving your hat on makes you a disrespectful anti-patriot.

I don't wear hats but yes, I do take them off for the anthem.

I don't wear hats, but if it's like a baseball cap or something I'd take it off. If it is the kind of hats your talking about then I wouldn't. I consider that more of an accessory.

But it wouldn't bother me if someone else didn't take their hat off.

I don't wear hats.
But, yes, I would take it off during the national anthem. I would take it off while at church. I would take it off while praying. ect.
To me, it's just respectful.
I dont care much if anyone else kept their hat on. Although, I would prefer they would take it off. It's their choice.

If it's a baseball hat or something like that, then yes. But a knitted hat, nah. I wouldn't take that off.

I don't really wear hats often
But i doubt i have taken it off if i ever had it on when i was actualy some place that did the anthem.

Remember the CB is NUTS! :clown:

I don't wear hats. I wear bandanna's though. And if I'm wearing one, I'm having a REALLY bad hair day so there is NO WAY I'm taking it off.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is if the person next to you takes of their hat or not. Chances are that you'll never see this person again anyway so why are you (general you) letting it bug you?

Depends on the hat: baseball hat then yes i will take it off because it is respectful and although it is an accessory for my outfit at a game, it is easy to take off put on. It is more of a respect thing. Just like you don't have to say yes mam, no mam, yes sir, no sir, it is just a respect thing to do so. kwim?

If it is a headband/bandana/beanie, ect, no I usually don't take it off just because first off I am usually not wearing such things and second off it is more of part of my head at the time. haha if that makes since.

I don't care if other people do/don't just my way of thinking and respecting my country. If you think it doesn't matter thats your opinion I could care less haha.

Like I said on that thread, no, I don't. I think it's an outdated tradition. Doing something just because that's the way it's always been done is ridiculous in this day and age.

And it has nothing to do with how I raised, my age, or my patriotism. My father was in the military most of his adult life. Being a teenager doesn't make me disrespectful. And I love this country. Taking a hat off should not represent that.

I just posted in that thread.

OOOOOO i love the lights in your siggie!!!!!!!!

Personally, I think why wear a hat when you know you're going somewhere where it's common-place to remove your hat as a sign of respect?

When in Rome and all that. JMO.

If I wore a hat, I would take it off.

My daddy does, my grandpa's, Garrett, my brother, etc. All the men down here do. (girls very rarely wear hats).

Its customary for men to remove their hats during the National Anthem, in Church, during prayer, and other times where respect should be shown.

Its like how we bow our heads during prayer, it's just signs of respect.

Kinda off subject but, my dad's cousin got killed from a road side bomb in Iraq a few years ago. We had to drive to the airport 40 minutes away (3 towns away). They had his family in a limo, and him in the herse (sp) with the flags in the windows.

Everyone we passed in vehicles, pulled over on the side of the road. We were on a four lane highway, even the people on the other side pulled over. people got out and all the men took off their hats, and put them on their heart.

Once we got back to our home town. Starting from the first store to the funeral home; it seemed like the entire town was both sides of the road. Again, all the men took off their hat and everything.

It's really just a sign of respect. And I guess once you go through seeing things like that. You just look at it differently.

In my family, the hats come off. Does it really hurt to take off a hat for a few minutes? No.

Especially when you honor your country and those who fight for you! They FIGHT for YOUR right to be able to choose to take off thaat. Why not show respect for two seconds of your day? It's a hat.

I would say "Yeah I do" but I remember that the last Football game I was at I didn't. I can't really argue that it wasn't a hat because it was knitted (I was wearing it as a hat to keep my ears warm) as I'm not allowed to wear it at school, so I cannot wear it during the anthem.

Anyways, I never have hats on. I only stand for the national anthem every morning at school, and we are absolutely under no circumstances allowed to wear hats.
