Hate the Haunted Mansion ride?! Hate the Haunted Mansion ride?! I'm shocked! It is one of my favorite rides at Disney! I feel ill. Here' hoping you will eventually like it!

My DD (14 at the time) was very, VERY nervous at riding HM the last time we were there. She likes thrill rides, but HATES anyone jumping out at her. First night at MK, we just had to visit HM (one of my top 3 MK attractions, by the way). She's holding my hand through the queue, winding through the cemetery outside, reading the gravestones and all, and then, suddenly, a CM jumps out at her and SCREAMS RIGHT IN HER EAR! Ohmygod, you never saw a girl fall apart so completely! I turned and screamed right back at him, calling him every name in the book...he's lucky I didn't take a swat at him! Just my mommy genes kicking in, I guess...DON'T MESS WITH MY KIDS! Well, he got the message, and apologized profusely. Doubt he ever did that again.

Doubt she'll ever ride HM again, either.

My DS14 still refuses to go in HM. For the life of me, I can't understand it, but there's something about those ghosts...

See, I'm fourteen, and a girl, so you shouldn't feel too bad. I especially gave my parents grief when they dragged me on it on my BIRTHDAY, those friggin, mutter, vshgv..........Anyways.

To the person who said I could watch or listen to it....thanks, but, you don't understand. I get majorly creeped out at it just THINKING about it, so if I watched it my mom would probably find me under my bed hugging a stuffed animal and reading Watership Down. (Lol, the book helps me relax, cuz I mean, it's about bunnies). But thanks anyways for the idea, I might try it sometime......like, when I have my friends over and it's bright and sunny outside and I'm surrounded by stuffed animals.........

My sister wouldn't go on HM until she was 18. She was always terrified of it before that. My dd is scared to death of it, but she's only 4. I'm a bad mom. It's my favorite ride, so I dragged her on there twice.

I will admit...I am 27 years old and I am scared by the Haunted Mansion. I have always been a big wimp about "scary" things...I can't even look at the TV if there is a commercial for a horror movie because it will scare me to bits when I try to go to bed. Part of why I'm scared of the HM is because I HATE things popping out at me and being surprised (I'm still scared of Jack-In-The-Boxes because of this), and part of it is my imagination...it's just hyperactive. I also imagine things like being attacked by a werewolf (I know...it's ridiculous). I can ride any rollercoaster without getting an elevated heart rate and I love all thrill rides, but I'm scared of a ride that my 6 year old niece would love. If I ever get to WDW solo (a dream I hope to achieve some day) I'm not sure that I would ride the HM all by myself. I realize that it's an irrational fear, but I can't seem to control it.

P.S. I love the drops on TOT, but could do without all the super-creepy Twilight Zone stuff...I don't even like sitting near the edge of the car because I'm scared something will grab me.

I'm so ashamed! But at least I haven't told anyone about the Gremlins that live under my bed and wait to grab my ankles...oops!

Don't feel bad muguet. I am exactly the same way. I wouldn't do ToT, so I waited with a pregnant woman whose 4 year-old DD took my Dad's hand and said "Don't worry, I won't let you be scared" Talk about being ashamed. But I sooooo understand what you mean. I was just watching a TV show that showed pictures of Freddie Krueger, and I wouldn't go out to walk the dog by myself. Though I think I could actually do ToT if I could just skip the Twilight Zone part and go straight to the drops. But HM is a definite NO if I have a say in it. Dark, ghosts, things popping out.........(it's a small world after all, it's a small world........)

I have a 22 year old daughter who still freaks when the pop-ups by the cemetary do their thing. She's also a little spooked by Little Leota near the exit. Me? It's the music. Raises every hackle on my neck!

I am one of those that always wants to apply for the vacancy at the end of HM. I always ride it multiple times when we are there. My DW is okay with it, but if you ever get to DL around Halloween, their HM is taken over by Jack Skellington and crew and has a real fun Nightmare before Christmas theme. My DW loves the HM during that time of year with that theme.

My DW wouldn't go on HM, but my DD (8) and DS (4) absolutely loved it. DS wanted to go through again! He's totally fearless.

This seems like a hard one to overcome. I am one of those who hates Haunted Houses/ Forests/ whatever. For a long time I really didn't like the Haunted Mansion. The ways I found to cope with it was to talk to the people around you, talk all the way through the ride if you want to. It takes your mind off it being a reality and more of a ride. I still talk through it with whoever I am sitting with. Point out things you might be interested in such as the ballroom scene (which is easier to look at because it is not as "close" to you), talk about you want to do later, what happened during the day, even what freaks you out. I don't know how many times I have said "Stupid pop things, screaming at me and popping up, ggggrrrrr" The pop ups really freak me out, I am one of those "I like to be in control of my surroundings". But talk through it, stare at the floor if you have to. Sometimes I count, just to give something to do and think about that is completely unrelated. Listen to the soundtrack and get used to the sounds. Don't expect to suddenly start liking it, but gradually you will overcome some of that fear. I did it and you can to. I am almost 20 and have been riding HM for the past ten trips. Don't worry you'll get there, take it slow and if someone makes fun of you, do it back....it will make you feel better.
