My laptop is constantly breaking. I have the accident protection plan. They can never update my address on my account properly and they keep sending it to my old addy.
I tried and tried to get them to send it to where I live. They did not know how to fix that problem so I filed a BBB complaint. Well they dont care. They refuse to help me and insist I should go by car to the fed ex office to pick it up myself.

The computer itself is just a hunk of junk. When I bought it, there was already a virus on the machine. It comes with Norton installed on it as a try me which HP does not tell you how to remove. Finally tech support at Best Buy answered that question for me. BTW you can not just uninstall virus scanners with the uninstall feature. You need a special program from the company to remove it completely and properly. Virus scanners are by definition Viruses themselves but that is another discussion for another time.

I am just so angry and upset with HP and I miss having a laptop to use.

Is it necessary to remove/uninstall Norton after the try-me period is up? It keeps alerting me (I have HP as well) that my trial subscription is running out in so many days, and it is recommended I purchase more...

Is that really necessary though? Or just scare-ware, so to speak?

Only if you want those notices to go away or if you want to install another scanner. You can only have one scanner on your machine at a time or things really go haywire.

I hate my HP too. It crashed and it had to be "reset" (that's not the right word.) and everything had to be reinstalled. 3x!!!! The first was right after my son was born. All his pics from when he was minutes old were on it. (geeks got them back! Yay!). HP has horrible customer service. The last time it happened the "tech" (ha!) asked when was the last time I did the reset/reinstall everything...as maintnance. Huh? Am I wrong? Do people routinely erase everything on their computers and reinstall the factory software as maintnance?! If I could afford a Macbook now I would get it. I'm not returning to HP when it's time for a new computer.

My HP laptop was a lemon from day 1. After 4 returns and a hundred hours on the phone with "Bob" from India, the warranty ran out, it broke again, and I put it on the floor and jumped up and down on it. I hated it. H.A.T.E.D I.T! I love my Sony Vaio.:lovestruc

My HP desktop is fine except for the crappy hard drive that was on it and died. Be sure to run you HP updates often. I guess I didn't and missed the firmware update that would have saved it.

I don't know if I hate my HP laptop but with what I know now about it, I would have kept the $1400 and saved a little longer to get a 17" MacBook Pro.

LOL. That is my dream. One day I will have a new laptop and put that HP piece of crap out of MY misery! LOL.

My 5 computers that I've had are all HP. I've never had a problem with any of them that would have been HP's fault.

1995 - Whoops, a Compaq Pentium 75 MHz. That was before HP bought Compaq.

1999 HP Celeron 667 MHz. I still have it and it still works fine for what is on it (obviously, nothing new on it.)

2004 HP P4 2.5 GHz. This one was given to me after a power surge. The guy at work couldn't get it working again and gave it to me. I disabled the modem, reinstalled Windows XP and it worked perfectly fine for about a year. It was a power surge that broke it, certainly not HP's fault.

2005 Compaq Athalon 3500+ - the computer I am on right now. Ancient tech, but it works. I am getting hammered with those fake antivirus viruses right now, but it certainly isn't HP's fault that my wife refuses to not go to those celebrity sites I keep telling her not to go to.

2009 or so HP laptop. It's a POS, but that is because it is just poor specwise that my boss bought for me. It is quite slow because of the specs, but works just perfectly.

I'd say 99% of the time, computers don't work right or work well for the user because they don't know anything about computers. Yes, off-the-shelf systems have a ton of junk on them. If you don't know to disable all that stuff, then your computer will run like a POS. My $500 HP computer ran twice as good as half the folks I gamed with online who had thousands of $$$ into their custom built computers.

I've also had a number of HPs and only had one problem. It was on my first HP. The hard drive went out a month after I purchased it. They sent a tech to my house to install a new one. It cost me nothing.

I guess I must just be lucky.

I've never had a major problem with my HPs...well, my previous HP desktop motherboard died, but it was 5 years old.. I had a compaq once, it was junk (before HP bought them), so I still avoid the compaq brand name. My new desktop and notebook are both running Win 7, and I haven't had a problem, except getting the laptop to default to num lock on power up, but I did online product help and reset the confiq files and it is working fine, now.

I had an Apple years ago that was pure JUNK, and they simply abandoned the format (It was an Apple III). I will not have another Apple product.

Unfortunately many computers come with "bloat ware" installed on them. The first thing I do upon receipt of a new computer is wipe the drive and install a clean version of Windows.

I recommend getting rid of Norton, McAfee, or any other AV program and installing either AVG, Avast, or Microsoft Security Essentials, all of which are free and use much less computing overhead.

I am typing this now on an HP (technically Compaq but same thing) and have no problems. Any computer can be a lemon out of the box, there are millions of parts in these things even though many are tiny and attached to silicone.

The inability to correct your address I can think of no excuse for.

I have one and its fine. DH has 2 issued by military and they are fine. The model he has is very durable. Built to military specs. Its a nice one. I almost bought the same, but it was only 10".

I hated my HP laptop. But I hated my Toshiba Satellite even more. It never worked well!

I just bought a Dell. Let's see how long this one lasts.

Sorry you have had such problems with your HP OP.

I have owned nothing but HPs and have loved them all.

My first one I got right before college...Celeron processor with a whopping 8GB harddrive. Lasted 4 years before my dad tried to put Windows ME on it. That killed it...not HPs fault. Just couldn't handle the new OS.

Then in 2003 I got an HP with an AMD Athlon processor. That was a workhorse machine. Lasted me 6 years with no upgrades. Ditched it last year because it was finally starting to wear down. And it was getting to the point I could hear it think. Literally I could hear it think.

Then I bought the Slimline HP desktop I have now. And I love it. Works like a charm and have not had any problems with it.

Finally this past February I bougth an HP dV7t entertainment laptop. And it is the best computer I have ever owned. Seriously. I love this thing. I take it everywhere I go.

OH man, I love love love my HP laptop!!!!! We have an HP desktop too, both work great. :) I'm sorry you're having problems with yours OP.

wow I'm in IT and I love my HP laptop never crashed no problems I've had it for 3 years now and so far so good. I love my HP. Maybe you all need some good antivirus software some adaware, and some other anti stuff stuff then you won't get bugs and add ons and such.

DH surprised me in February with a new HP pavilion desktop as a birthday/anniversary/late Christmas gift when taxes came in. I was able to use ig for approximately 2 weeks, when it experienced Harddrive failure. :sad2: :headache:  My poor DH has been on the phone with HP sooo much, and they have finally sent us a box and shipping label to return it to be overhauled.

Yeah, I'm pretty disgusted with HP in general    That's what we get, DH says, for being too lazy to build one himself this time. (my "old" computer lasted me for a loooong time)

Is it a Seagate drive?
That's exactly what happened to me. I refused to send them my computer. I just paid for the restore disks ($15) and bought myself a new hard drive (not Seagate) and got it running again on my own. I then got a carbonite.com subscription to backup all of my stuff.

Once I got it running, I ran the HP update and got the software to run the firmware patch for the other Seagate drive that came with this computer before that one failed too.

Check the HP forums and see if it is worth sending the whole computer back. I don't know if they have recovered anyone's data from this issue. Those drives are pretty dead. Although you are probably still under warranty so it may be worth it sending it back.

Lesson learned, don't ignore those HP updates.

I had an HP as my work computer. It was terrible. And since I did payroll the time clock software always got messed up.

finally we had a big storm and it fried.
