Hate the new booking rules

If I want Christmas... my best and maybe only chance (NOW) of getting it is to book a seven nite vacation with Christmas on the last day, then walking it to the day I want. If you don't have the points to make a 7 nite ressie... too bad. Get more points.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Your such a rebel....keepin it real! Yep, that will be the saying on many issues...."Get more points"!

Ok.. sooo many posts... can't read them all... Suzanne thanks for trying to explain to me (privately) about walking a ressie with just the two weekend days, but here is what it comes down for me...

No matter how you try to work the "walking"... the owners with enough points to cover a 7 nite ressie have the ultimate advantage... and the advantage steps down with each day.

DBD was the ultimate equalizer and the primary reason we bought into DVC 11 years ago.

Very good point. I thought about this the other day. Just another thing why I don't like it.

Do all 300,000 DVC members know that there is an Epcot 4pm Pass? If not, then that's not fair to those who are spending more money just to go to dinner at Epcot, is it?

I thought it was for Florida Residents only.

Florida Resident Epcot After 4pm Annual Pass
Entitles Florida residents to unlimited admission* to Epcot after 4 p.m. *Except activities/events separately priced. Proof of Florida Residency required upon admission.

$129 for adults. DVC membership does not give Florida Resident status.

Wh Wh What's this? I'm not a resident but I do own part of a "home" there?
Disney does not extend FL resident benefits to DVC owners and specifically state this fact. Technically it doesn't entitle you to state residency either.

If DBD wasn't fair, neither is walking because although it's practiced, it's not explained by MS to all the members. MS has never mentioned to everyone that it can be done. In fact, they've said that it's not going to be done. The CM's that I did talk to were incredulous when I mentioned it. In fact, one gave me her number and said that if I ever couldn't get something that I called for on the first day I could, I should call her and she would make "magic."

BDB was fair and unfair. It was fair in that all had the potential to do the same thing. It was unfair in that calling DBD during work days if prohibitive for those that work normal hours on eastern or Central time. The bottom line is that NO system is totally "fair" for every member involved. It also gave the distinct possibility of multiple people holding a portion of what each wanted. Walking takes some of that away but ties up days that the member doesn't intent to use and allows them to back door ahead of others members for a given reservation. DBD was often recommended by CM but it was not universally discussed by CM with members calling.

Day-By-Day is the way!

Say that a hundred times and I think all will agree..... or maybe...

No better way than Day-By-Day.

Truly... Now that MS is 7 days a week... it is the BEST way to be fair, but then I don't think DVC is thinking about fair... more about more demand for points. It actually is pretty genius.... from a business stimulation point of view. However, I think they miscalculated the call center demands and didn't realize the savvy of the owners. Again. This will turn into a call center nightmare. I hope.

Doubt most would agree.

Booking success under the new rules is in the high-90s (percent-wise) according to reports posted on the DIS. Many, many people began doing the Day by Day bookings simply out of fear, and the new system has proven that it was unnecessary the vast majority of the time.

Sure, some people have been unable to get what they want but most of the membership is completely ignorant of that fact. And even some who are aware of it still believe that the current system is much better.

I doubt you'll get much support in suggesting a return to the days when it took 7 calls to book a single reservation rather than 1.

DVC didn't intentionally set up a system which encouraged "walking" in order to promote add-ons. Quite the contrary...I agree with Dean that it's a loophole which will be closed sooner rather than later.

Actually I think the current way without the allowance of walking is MUCH better overall. Even with walking it's still far better, IOM. I doubt this will be nearly as many phone calls as was seen with DBD and will be even less when they stop walking.
