Harley got his first Rabies vaccine on Friday afternoon. Tonight I had company over, and one of them noticed a large lump on his side. I was panicky all night, because obviously the vet isnt open and i just *knew* he had cancer and was going to die ;)

But then it dawned on me that that is the exact spot he had that vaccine last week. We didn't notice the lump until today, and he's handled alot.

I'm going to call first thing tomorrow about it, but to help me sleep tonight, have you heard of a dog getting a lump at the injection site? He lets us rub it, squeeze it, etc, and seems indifferent. Obviously not bothering him.

I've been looking and looking online and can't find much but that swelling can take place at the injection site, but would it be this many days removed?

Help put a mommy's mind to rest, please ;)

I don't know if it is given in the muscle or not but people will often have a firm lump from injections. The fact it is not painful is good. It may go away over a few weeks time. Talk to the vet.

Don't know about dogs and rabies.....but one of my cats gets a bad reaction to her shots.
She used to get that bump and then scratch it until it was raw.
Once her legs went numb and she was screaming :(
We finally tried the shots in the muscle instead of under the skin and she has been fine since then.

Yes, rabies is given in the muscle and will create a lump.
