Has Whispering Canyon changed?

In the current covid-era, has Whispering Canyon changed any beyond the standard covid procedures? Do they still do all their fun hijinks?

Our waitress still threw the napkins and straws at us, and was definitely rambunctious with us, but nothing else. Nothing can travel from table to table, so no “ketchup” or hobby horse races etc.
We enjoyed our dinner there. Food and service were both really good.

Nothing got passed around, but we still had tons of fun! As always, depends a lot on the server but we had a great time! It was even better and funnier than a few pre-Covid times, to be honest!

They still try to mix it up a bit but nothing like before. The food and atmosphere is still amazing and wouldn’t pass it up if you were on the fence.

I hated the ketchup thing. When you see everyone touching things that get put on your table by kids you know had their hands in their mouths moments before. Ewwwww... No one at my table was ever allowed to request ketchup!

We were there once and saw a kid pop the cap on a ketchup bottle, put the open end into his mouth, and squirt some in. I called over the nearest server and told her what I'd seen but she didn't grab it, someone else called for ketchup, and it disappeared into a collection of a dozen bottles on another table. Ever since then, when we go to WC my adult daughter goes to Roaring Fork and grabs a few packets for us to use.

we made the mistake of going here last week for dinner. Found it to be the biggest "rip-off" of the trip. Dinner is basically the skillet which for $36 is a joke unless you eat 3 of them. the food is good, but I'd value you at $17 so if you eat 2 and make yourself sick you might get some value. .We did love the burnt end nachos. We also made the mistake of entering our 10 year old as 10 and not 9 when checking in on the app so our server wasn't going to let her order the kids skillet for $16 but we ordered that for the 7 year old and the 10-year old got the "adult" chicken fingers and not the ones on the kids menu.

I was also slightly irritated that when we asked for a box for our chicken fingers he said we weren't suppose to pack the leftovers from the skillets but he'd look the other day like he was doing us so some sort of favor. (and no this wasn't part of the old routine/service). I sort of choked because we had originally planned for lunch and they have other options besides the skillets at lunch but not at dinner but we switched while there. I wouldn't go back for dinner unless the menu changed.

Toppelinos at $42 for breakfast seemed like a much better value and would do that again in a heartbeat even at that price. Should have just gone to Geyser Point.

You paid the right price for your 10 yo and takeaway leftovers has never been an option for any aycte meal. Your server followed normal protocols here, sorry you left unhappy.
I guess that’s why they say “would you like pastries to go?” At Toppellinos. The point on the 10 year old thing was I could have put nine in the check in app, they would have never known as she’s been 10 for 6 weeks. Pretty dumb. They don’t ask for a birth certificate when ordering off the kids menu anywhere else.

The dinner skillets are a rip off even under perfect circumstances, but especially so now. Just didn’t want others to make the same mistake.

Agreed.

I had a good meal here a few weeks ago.

The whole atmosphere has never appealed to me (not into Westerns), but the moment I heard about the ketchup nonsense I swore if I ever had to eat there, I would be bringing my OWN ketchup.

I'm confused. Were the chicken fingers part of a skillet? Because otherwise what was the issue?

The chicken fingers were an a la carte option (not on the menu) neither was the burger but apparently they can’t serve that at dinner, only lunch. So he brought the box and suggested that anything could go in the box and he would look the other way even though the leftovers on the skillet were supposed to be thrown away I guess.

Ah.

As others have said, AYCTE places and buffets have never allowed take away boxes. Whispering Canyon is a weird hybrid, so I guess they have to be clear about it.

Yeah, you’re paying for atmosphere which isn’t there. It’s $36 for all you can slightly above average bbq with a side of an explanation of what not to expect. They could make up for this by say, letting you take the leftover spare rib without acting like it was a huge favor. Doesn’t make the top 50 places there now, which is sad, but that could change as things go back.
