Has This Happened to Anyone?

Hi everyone! I have a question. My daughter has been playing VMK for two months now. VMK accepted the name she asked for and she has been playing with this name for the whole two months. Then she logged on today and VMK had a message telling her that she had to change her VMK name! After 2 months of making friends and establishing trading friends, they make her change her name! She is temporarily known as Guest######## until they say they approve her new name. Now we aren't mad or anything, just a little disappointed and frustrated. Is this a normal thing to have happen?

Awwww, you usually get attached to your VMK name, and that name is part of you. Well this happened to me 2 times. And the second time was today! I logged on earlier and the EVIL screen said -- "Unfortunatly your name has to be changed." I was so sad! Tell your daughter that I'm so sorry for her. I know how she feels. Hugs to you and your daughter!

Thank you for the response and i am so sorry it has happened to you too. I was just wondering also if anyone knows why or has a guess as to the reason for the request for a name change. It seems to me if they (VMK) accept it, then it should be accepted, period. I really like VMK and I won't let it spoil my fun but like you said, you get attached to the name and her friends knew how to find her.There was a note when i logged on that said her name had been changed but when her new name is "accepted" i doubt they will know who she is. But again thank you for the input, after all, it is just a game.LOL

Hi, I am so sorry your daughter has been made to change her title. FunkyMonkey is my daughter -- it's just sad for her to have to change a name that has become her identity on VMK. It makes me so sad to watch her be sad about it. I can understand though. Her previous title (FunkyMonkey-Bobby) is a trademarked name, and so she switched to another title quickly so she could get on (MickeysMusic). But she was never happy with that one. So after being unhappy with that title, I told her to create a new character with a name that she would love just as much, which she did. She switched to a different spelling of her original name which was finally accepted (FunkiMonkeyMe). And now two months later she received the dreaded notice that her title again was not acceptable. I guess it was too close to the trademarked spelling. So now my Monkey is waiting for her character to no longer be a guest again. She will soon be JustMonkeyMe.

I wish VMK would make you have a guest name for a longer time so they can fully check out if your name is acceptable, rather than giving you your title sooner and having it possibly taken away at a later time.

Everyone on her friends list will still be able to find her. I had a Guest on my list and when they're name was approved, I got a message saying they were know as ???? again. So no worries with her friends, but it is disappointing. Can I ask what her name used to be? Just wondering why they canned it.

Thank you for your post. I hesitate to state what her name was on VMK because if she can't use it and i don't know why yet, then i don't want to take a chance on her not being able to play for awhile. There are very strict rules on VMK for a reason and i totally respect those rules. I was just curious to know why they would accept a title and then change their mind and if anyone knew the answer to that. I really don't think, as was suggested, that it had anything to do with a trademark. Although i don't know every brand name in the whole world. LOL I really appreciate you all sharing your experiences with this same situation. Have a great evening!

If that indeed is the case, then i wish they would do a little more research before they accept the name in the first place because, as i said before, you get used to it. But I guess that must be the reason and we will chalk it up to good old fashion trademark rules.
