Earlier today, I checked our voice mail messages. There was a recorded message saying that it was "an AT&T Correctional Facility" calling and that we should contact the given number to "set-up an account" in order to receive calls. Well, I don't know anyone that is in a correctional facility, and if there is anyone that knows me that happens to be in one, I won't taking their calls. Our number in unlisted, have had it for 8 years, and the name shown on the caller I.D. displayed "unknown number". Today there was another call with the same recorded message, I just hung up.

Obviously, I won't be calling any number to find out what this is about, but it sounds like a scam to me.

Has anyone heard of this?

Not to me, but my BIL had something like this happen. My other loser of a BIL found himself incarcerated a while back, and he would continually try to call his brother collect. He didn't actually want to talk to his brother, he wanted his brother to call other people FOR him.

Needless to say - he got hung up on alot.

I would watch your phone bill carefully for a couple months just to make sure.

I've never heard of anything like this. I would hang up, too

I once got a call from the Marion county jail from somebody calling collect who identified themself as "me". I had no idea who "me" was, since, the most likely candidate, who actually had been in jail shortly before that, denied having made the call. Obviously, I hung up on the person calling, since, whoever it was didn't have the decency to identify themself by name.

This wasn't a person calling or asking to speak to any of us. It was just a generic recorded message telling us to call a toll free number to "set-up an account" in order to receive calls from the correctional facility. It sounds like a scam to me. :scratchin :scratchin ::yes::

Yep. And even if it isn't a scam, why would anyone want to set up an account to receive calls from a jail?
