About a month ago, DH and I bought an O-Cedar mop at the grocery store because we needed a new mop. I've only used it about a half dozen times and tonight was the last straw!

It was fine the first few times I used it and then small chunks of the mophead (sponge) started coming off. Tonight, what was left of the mophead just disintegrated AS I WAS MOPPING! :crazy2:

So I guess I need to call O-Cedar in the morning and see what I can do about having the head replaced. :headache:

what type of cleaner were you using? It might have disintegrated the mop head if it was something really strong or had bleach in it and you didn't fully rinse the sponge before storing it. I had this happen once when I washed the bathroom floor with a strong bleach type cleaner that I didn't dilute. Peggie

It's the year 2006, get a Swiffer. ;)

I have the swiffer mop but only use it for small things..its just not good for really cleaning the whole floor, doesn't do as good as a job as scrubbing with a mop.

I was thinking the same thing as well :thumbsup2 . I bet it is your cleaner that's causing the problem but you really need to think of the germs that breed in that thing  and are just going back on the floor everytime you use it :crazy2: .

I would use a Swiffer, but with the way DS throws food and stuff on the floor, I'm afraid a Swiffer just wouldn't cut it.

And it may have been the chemicals I was using, I'm not sure. We only bought the stupid thing because the mop we'd been using before quite literally broke in half one day when I was scrubbing the floor. The handle (aluminum) snapped right in half. :scared:

I was so mad when that one broke because we'd paid GOOD money for it at the State Fair the year before. It was supposed to be this super mop and when the head dried, it dried rock hard so that no germs, etc could grow/live on it. I loved it and we were about to change the head (which lasted for a good 10 mos!!!) when the stupid thing broke. We haven't been able to find the company that makes them and they weren't at the fair this past Oct so we can't replace the handle. We still have a bag of the replacement heads sitting around and don't know what to do with them.

I think that this is a sign that you should get a cleaning person! And yes, I would call the company.

Is there something special about that handle? Maybe you could find another handle that would fit the head you have.

Too much Bleach, it falls apart. My DH uses Pine Sol and I use Bleach. :confused3 We just went and bought another O'Cedar Mop, as my DH loves it. The other one we had for about 6-8 months came Completely APART! :crazy2: So, DH bought another one. ;) He buys about 3-4 Mop Heads at the same time. I have the swiffer, but it just doesn't DO the Job. :(

chell--the older mop has a special handle and head. I've seen a similar mop on TV, I think, but not by the same company as the one that sold us our mop at the state fair nearly 2 years ago.

I really like the O-Cedar mop, except for the part about the head disintegrating right before my eyes.
