Due to go in February with Daughter of 6 and Disney sceptic wife. After looking through Brits Guide 2002 she was attracted to Titanic Ship of Dreams and so it was pencilled into our schedule as part of a quieter day coupled with water park visit.

Notice on reading Brits guide 2003 that no mention is now made of Titanic (previously it had a wite up/photo and attraction rating of AAAA). I further note that the Mercado is one the Brit Guide "PARTNERS" and whilst the add on the inside back cover does mention the home of the Titanic Exhibition I am surprised it no longer features in the Guide.

Does it still exist? Is it actually worth a visit?

We went to the Mercado a couple of weeks ago.

The Titanic display/museum was certainly there and open although I can't answer your second question as we didn't go in.

The Mercado itself was very disappointing. We had been there 10 years ago and seemed to remember it differently. It was certainly very quiet this time (more deserted) and it was raining very hard which didn't help.

Simon V will be able to confirm this but I am sure I read on a previous thread that the Titanic exhibition is due to close at the end of this year.

We went round this exhibition two years ago and found it to be quite entertaining but not up to the 'definative' exhibition we were expecting. The sets, with the exception of the main staircase, were a bit 'plastic' and there weren't many actual artefacts from the ship. JMHO you understand.
It was diverting enough on a rainy afternoon but I wouldn't be too upset about missing it if I were you.

Other than Titanic the Mercardo is quite a quaint place for an hours shopping with the usual food court for fast food. Last Feb they had live music playing in the courtyard in the evenings. I believe that Hard Rock are opening a museum on the site of Guinness Book of Records which is just outside Mercardo but not sure when.

Don't worry about your wife being a Disney Sceptic - she won't stay that way for long once she feels the magic!! :p

The Titanic exibition was due to close on December 31st, there was then an article in the Sentinel stating that it "might not"
as there had been an upsurge in interest. I have been looking for information/articles since but have seen nothing.

I'm double-checking, but the inside info I had was that the Titanic was definitely due to close at the end of the year, sadly, hence it is not in the 2003 guide.

Well, it seems the Titanic is not going down with all hands - for the moment. Here's the latest story froim the Orlando Sentinel:

ORLANDO -- Extra artifacts have given new life to Titanic – The Exhibition, which will remain at the Mercado dining, shopping and entertainment complex through 2003, company officials said Wednesday.

The attraction on International Drive had been planning to leave by the end of the year and go on tour, because of slow attendance at the 142,000-square foot center.

But an expanded roster of artifacts from the doomed ocean liner went on public viewing in October and the response has been "outstanding" said Lisa Diaz, sales and marketing manager.

Details of the lease extension were not disclosed.

Sorry a bit late to reply to you but here goes.

We visited the Titanic exhibition in November, while it was ok I would suggest it was expensive for what is there, the content is good but not more than a 60 minute visit imho.

For us it was ok as our youngest boy is obsessed with it after doing a school project, and he loved it, [he has toured Southampton been to exhibitions seen the film hundreds of times has pictures on his wall and a titanic bell on his wall!!] but if it was just to get away from the theme parks and of no special interest to anyone in your party then I would not go.

If you want any more info just e-mail me

We went a few weeks ago and both me and DW loved it. DS + DD were both quite interested too. We took the tour round which was fun and then walked back to the start and went around on our own taking lots of time to read all the articles and biogs, look at all the photos and take some of our own snaps and film. OK there are not lots of artifacts but I thought it was very well presented and very tastefully done. We spent a good three hours in there and would reccomend it to anyone who has a passing interest in Titanic.
