Has the time of Non-IP rides & attractions come and gone?

Haven't heard of this, but if you recall it did go from Disney's MGM Studios to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I did find this article from 2015 that hinted at a new name beyond the change to DHS. This article form June 2017 hints that it might become Disney's Hollywood Adventure.

This one always has driven me crazy. I listened to the audio of this moment from the shareholder meeting right after this was reported. A young boy asked the question and I believe it was obvious that Iger was joking around when he *hinted* at a new name coming. The quote was written accurately, but taken literally.

Hear for yourself... at the 01:19:28 mark.

Iger wasn't joking, if he was it was the dumbest joke ever in the history of mankind (and womankind). Why would Iger lie to a child? That's like saying to a kid "I'm going to get you ice cream." Then licking it right in front of him.

Iger gets paid too much, but he's not Lex Luthor.

Kid - "Is the name of Disney's Hollywood Studios going to be changed?"
Iger - "No... no. It is being changed?"
Kid and audience laugh
Iger - "Not announced."
Laughter
Iger - "We used to be MGM Studios; we changed it to Hollywood Studios and we are doing some significant work there right now... that I guess will result in a name change."
More laughter
Iger - "We can announce that?"
laughter
Iger - "We'll announce that we are changing the name, but won't announce what we are changing it to."
More laughter
Iger - "We are not changing it to Rogue One."
laughter

Sorry, not seeing the joke you are seeing in that at all. I think you are the only one to see any obvious joke there. Looks like to me they'll be renaming it and right now, no name, and he hadn't really planned to bring it up when he did, since they don't have a name to announce. But no joke.

Interesting discussion about IP and park attractions. It seems to me that there is pretty good demand/expectation of new IP attractions in the parks every time a new movie is released. For example, Moana is a very recent Disney movie and I regularly see people asking here on the boards about where to find any Moana-themed attractions or meet and greets.

I want to go on record stating I'm not opposed to IP attractions, many of Disneyland's original attractions were based off some kind of IP of the time...it's just a question of how they do it to create thematically consistent and quality experiences.

Right, though I still want there to be room for new ideas that aren't based on the box office. for original ideas to have room to take root as well.

Yep, bottomline is if the ride is good it will be loved either way. It doesn't even matter if the attraction is an IP or not.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, if it is awful then people will despise it and give it the one finger salute. Look at "Figment" and "Stitches" rides. Both are beloved characters, one created for Epcot, the other based on a movie creation. Yet both of the rides are panned by Disney fans.
