Has Kilimanjaro Safaris changed?

I just went on the Safari ride at AK and my last time riding it, which was in 2011 or 2013 (don't know for sure) I remember there being a part of the ride that was about poaching in the jungle.

Either I am going insane and getting this ride confused with something else. But I really thought there was a part of the ride where some prerecorded voice, besides the tour guide/driver, came over the speaker and said that there were poachers in the area and we need to help save the animals. Like it was supposed to make you think that there really were poachers in the ride and the driver had to go and scare them away or something. Did this use to be part of the ride? Or am I just insane? :)

Yes, it was part of the ride years ago. Don't know exactly when that stopped.

But that doesn't mean you aren't insane. :D

No, you aren't crazy. They changed this several years ago- took out the parts about poaching, saving Little Red, etc.

We were glad they took it out. For a visitor it may be nice, but as a local passholder theres only so many times you can save Little Red before getting very tired of it. :) I wish they'd add some animals in the fake hot springs area. There's a long stretch with nothing to look at.

We were there in Nov 2013 and the story had already changed then. The entire "storyline" has changed and is now more educational than a story.

Little Red, like many CMs was reassigned in late 2012. As of about a year ago he was doing well in the back of the truck, except it's located backstage in front of one of the administrative buildings at AK. He looked happy to me. Wonder if he got a raise?/
I always wondered what it was like to have a six hour shift standing next to the jeep with a rifle, and saying "Little Red's OK!" whenever a truck passed by. How strong was the temptation to ad-lib once in a while?
