I do feel that Johnny Depp is playing Johnny Depp in most movies now. The strange quirky thing is getting old.
I didn't mind The Lone Ranger.

I agree. You can say that about a lot of actors now. Denzel Washington plays Denzel Washington in every movie he does.
I liked it. But then again im easily entertained.

Johnny Depp did a fine job with Lone Ranger. No actor could have saved that bomb of a movie.
DH's issue with Johnny, it just seems like if he's in the movie, Helena Bonham Carter has to be in the movie. I know that they have done 6 together, but it just seems like there's so many more than that.
IIRC, she's married to Tim Burton - and Burton directs many of Depp's films.

Johnny Depp has always taken on odd and quirky roles and actually became a bit more mainstream when he took the role of Jack Sparrow. I personally prefer him when he stars in the smaller, odder films - they just seem to fit him.
I agree. I enjoy the movies he's done lately well enough, but I miss his more serious side. I read a quote from him about one of the Pirates movies where he talked about enjoying making movies his kids could see, but I miss projects like Finding Neverland and The Rum Diary. He is so much better in those serious but still quirky roles than in the stuff he's been doing lately.
That said, I absolutely adored Dark Shadows. I loved the show when I was a kid and the movie was campy as hell and unbelievably true to the original.
