Has anyone's carpet ever suddenly bubbled?

Our wall to wall carpeting in our bedroom has been down a little less than 3 years. Just today it bubbled up for a stretch of about 3 feet in the middle of the room. We didn't move any furniture recently or spill anything on it. We can't figure out why this has suddenly happened. One thing is that it is really humid today and we wondered if that had anything to do with it. Any ideas?

Our carpet does this all over the house - the carpet is only 4 years old. I can tell you that the builder was a cheap as could be so we in turn have really cheap carpet. I am sure it happens with all grades - but ours was buckling within the first 6 months.

You can call and have a carpet guy come in and stretch it for you - the bubble is not going to go away on it's own unfortunately.

We had that happen to our carpet after two years. I had to have someone come in and restretch them - it cost $350.00 for 4 bedrooms and the hallway.
Apparently it can happen for a variety of reason - the man who did the restretching said on ours it was possible that they did not use the right equipment for the size of the rooms, apparently there are several sizes of the bar that hooks the carpet to the grips. Our carpet was barely hooked on.
He also mentioned that if it is to hot when the carpet is installed, it can also cause the buckling. It will not come undone by itself, and waiting to long to have it restretched it can cause creasing in the carpeting that won't come out.
We originally installed an expensive carpet, so I was glad to pay the $350.00 rather than replace 1500 square feet of carpeting after only 2 years.

The humidity did it to my carpet too. Perfectly fine carpet until a really humid day with the windows open and no C/A....boom....huge ridge in the middle of my family room.

I think the quality of the carpet and of the company that installed it had something to do with it too. All the carpet in my home, except that one room, was installed by another company. Still no problems with any other carpet.
