I was wondering if I can ride soaring or not.
When we were in California, my daughter and I didn't ride it because we both suffer from motion sickness. My son (he and my husband rode it while we waited outside) believes that we could try it when we're at WDW next month.

If anyone with motion sickness has been on it, did you make it through without any ill effects?

My son gets motion sickness very easily...gets sick in the car, gets sick after any roller coaster ride, etc. We have gotten used to giving him dramamine whenever there is a chance he could get sick (which is pretty easy.) He didn't seem to have any problems with Soarin at all. It is a very smooth relaxing ride...not much motion at all, but I know that everyone is different, and I would hate for you to try it due to my opinion, and then get sick... :flower:

Which is why we stayed away from it at DCA.
But if the motion is smooth, it may be that all we need to do is close our eyes if we feel weird (like in those 360 degree movies).

hmm...my son really wants us to go with him this time...

My aunt has motion sickness (i.e., won't ride simulators, spinning things, etc), but she had no problems with Soarin'. It was about her favorite thing at WDW.

really? that's really great to hear (we also can't deal with simulators and spinning)...
I guess we'll try it then.....thanks!!

I also get sick in cars, teacups and simulators (no star tours for me), but I have no problem on Soarin'. There is just one little split second as you go over the aircraft carrier that for an instant makes my eyes feel a little funny, but it's over as quick as it starts. Other than that, it's great. I believe the wind blowing on you really helps. I rode it 10 times in May, yes TEN times over a 2 week trip and it was great everytime. Of course, I have never done mission space and don't see me ever trying. I have done body wars and star tours, and know exactly how bad that will make me feel. This is a great ride and should not be missed.

I tend to get a little woozy from IMAX type films. At the movie in France I usually have to close my eyes a few times. When I rode Soarin' I just closed my eyes a few times and enjoyed the ride. There is no motion of the ride vehicles to worry about. So--you can just close your eyes if things start to go downhill. Soarin' is a wonderful and amazing ride! Give it a try.

I usually get motion sickness to so I was a bit concerned when I saw that huge screen since I had gotten sick at an IMAX movie several years ago. I closed my eyes a couple of times which was fine because there's no spinning. Have the wind blow on you is very helpful during those moments. The second time I rode, I left my eyes open knowing that the ride wasn't so bad and I made it through with no queeziness. I think you'll enjoy it.

So maybe there is ONE *headliner* I can ride on? I can't do simulators or spinning things, which leaves out all the big rides, and don't do drops, either, jsut to complete the list. Dumbo/Aladdin test me, and I get ooogy on BTMRR but ride it anyway. I get a bit woozy at Timekeeper on occasion, but just close my eyes. How much motion is involved with Soarin'? If I close my eyes, will I really not feel like I'm moving? How long does the ride last? BTW, I always take Bonine/meclizine before going into the parks!

I have terrible, terrible motion sickness, even things like Big Thunder Mountain make me sick. I have trouble with all the rollercoasters, I won't go near Star Tours, etc. But Soarin' is one of my favorite rides, and definately my 2nd favorite in Disneyland CA (Mr Toad wins 1st lol).

Extremely pleasant, it's not a "thrill" ride at all. Very gentle, not much motion at all and when it is moving it's just gently swaying side to side. The film itself is beautiful, and the smells are wonderful too! :goodvibes

Definately give it a try. I find it hard to believe anyone could get sick off of Soarin'.

thanks everyone. That's very reassuring. Next month we'll definitely do Soarin. I'll let you know how it goes.

OK, I'm gonna try it! I'm one of those who can get motion sick in the bathtub, but it sounds like some very motion-sensitive folk have ridden Soarin' with minimal problems, so I'm gonna give it a go!

DH and I suffer from motion sickness and have been on Soarin' both at DL and DW. For me the difference is the slow gliding sensation. I can't take the jerking movements of Star Tours while watching a film and rides of that type. i think if you can get on a plane you can definitely do Soarin.

I rode it last week, I did take bonine first. The only problem I had was the laughing out loud and giggling that embarassed my teen aged kids.

Don't think they will ride it with me again.
That's ok, I'll just use their fastpasses and ride multiple times. :teeth:

I am one who gets motions sickness very easily. I take dramamine before flying and any car trip where I will not be driving. I would not ride Star Tours because it will make me sick, same thing for Mission Space. I loved Soarin' and would do it over and over again. It was a calm and relaxing attraction.

I am so glad I asked, because now I'm not worried about it at all. In fact, I'm really looking forwards to it.

Thanks!

My DH and I make it a habit of taking one Bonine every morning so we don't worry about motion sickness on most of the rides. We really enjoyed Soarin' and being motion sick never crossed my mind. I'll ride any of the coasters, but still don't dare to to Mission:Space or the simulators. I

Beth,

I get motion sickness too and had no problem with this ride at Disneyland. I have started to take Dramamine before I go to any amusement park now and that seems to help me! Enjoy your trip!!!!!!
