Has anyone on here watched the "reality" show, "the Shot" on VH1? It is pretty cool, even though it is one of those reality shows that I usually don't like. It shows alot of what goes into a photo shoot and gives me some real neat ideas. If you haven't seen it, it is on VH1 on Sundays at 10pm. You can also download it on itunes for $2 per episode. There is a free episode on there now too.

Just thought I'd pass this along to the fellow photographers although it isn't disney related. VERY photography related though! :)

Edit: Now that I have been watching the pilot for the show, it may not be so good when the little ones are around. Maybe that is why it is on at 10pm. It is focused on fashion photography, but I like how it gives some great ideas on how to deal with models, etc.

I have the iTunes "Season Pass." :thumbsup2

It's definently interesting to watch the challenges and try to imagine how you would have shot it. I don't know if I've picked up anything that I can use in my own work. I don't even know if what they are doing is similar at all to real fashion photography shoots.

I was kind of glad to see Airic go this week. I didn't like Dean at first but he's really growing on me. Not to mention, he's actually very talented.

LOVE this show! I am really enjoying watching these people work with the different scenerios. That 360º setup was crazy!

I think Dean has really settled down and I like him much better after the make-up challenge this past week. He was very open to suggestions and worked great with his teammates.

I have been watching the show too; I just wish they would give more photography related information. For example, explain how they are achieving the lighting that they do, or what camera setting they are using, etc. I guess then the show would lose some of its general audience viewers, but I could deal with a little less drama, and a little more photog info.

I agree. Also one thing I don't really like is Russell telling them that their photos stink, but never showing what he would have done in that situation. I think he should do the shoot first off camera, then have the others come in and do it. That way, if their shots stink, he can show them what he means.

I'll have to check this out. :scratchin

I find it to be interesting. The "reality" part isn't really my thing as they have put the most opposite personalities on the show on purpose, I suppose to make it "interesting". I like to see what they do to make their shots happen. They are on a time limit, so they have to get creative quickly. Kind of cool. I do have to wonder where they got some of these people though. On one episode, one of the girls (who was not a great photographer from the beginning) asks "how do I zoom this thing?". The response was "it's a fixed focal length lens". Now I wonder, would anyone pick up a camera and NOT know what lens was on it? :lmao: Anyways, it is pretty cool. Worth watching once and if you don't like it, you don't like it.

I've always blocked the various "music" channels, but I might try putting this on my record list. Thanks for the heads up.

Like I said before though, it isn't one that would really be good for the kids to watch. They have (at least in 2 episodes I've seen) used nude models for their "fashion" shoots. Don't know what clothes or makeup they are pretending to sell here, but who am I to judge, right? :confused3 Of course, they block the private parts of the models from the camera, but it took some fancy explaining to DD as to what they were doing the first time I watched it. Luckily, I avoided any more questions. :duck:

i think this a new channel in my area but if you get ovation, it has a ton of photography programs...i think it's mostly geared toward the arts in general but one day it was nothing but photography

Has anyone actually smeared vaseline on their lens to make things look 'softer' (per the Tips of the Trade)? I think that would ruin your lens! It would certainly be difficult to clean off.

Still, I am enjoying the show.

:lmao: I thought the same thing! I can never imagine smearing Vaseline on a lens! :scared1: I know how hard it can be to clean; when ds was 2 he gave our lab a "bath" with Vaseline- the poor dog was greasy for weeks!

He is actually putting it on a filter, not on the actual lens. He just doesn't say filter when he talks about it.

Of course, he probably just throws it away and gets a new one afterwards.

or go to ebay and buy a soft filter, i'm sure that is not the real term but i got one with about 10 others for i think $10 total...or use photoshop... much less messy anyway:rotfl:

I did see that it was a filter. I guess those are a tad more 'disposable' to him, than someone with my budget. ;)

Some of the tips seem crazy to me. I keep reminding myself that they are FASHION photography tips. I don't think I would want a portrait of my grandma shot through some leaves. :rotfl:

I saw part of it (the second half) for the first time last week. It looked pretty interesting.

I love watching how they set up the "themes" of the shoots. And I also like to check out the different angles used.

Well, sadly, this Sunday night is the finale of this show. Hopefully they do it again, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

In the meantime, does anyone know if the show Canon Photo Safari is still being aired? On a google, I came up with that it was on ESPN (which I remember) but it was also on OLN (which became "versus") and now I can't find that it exists at all. I wouldn't even mind so much if it was called Nikon Photo Safari now, I just want to watch it! :lmao:
