http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2045593 Discussion of the new FP award for birthdays at WDW... not at all what I expected. How is it working at DL? I'm rethinking my approach for our DL trip in August for my DH's birthday. I think he'll be getting the free admission or the gift card instead.

I copied this from another post of mine:

There are two types of Fastpasses being issued, being named after Donald and Daisy Duck. "Donald's Favorites" will cover several major Fastpass Attractions, such as Space Mountain in Disneyland Park or California Screamin' at Disney's California Adventure Park. "Daisy's Favorites" will cover several smaller Fastpass Attractions, such as Autopia at Disneyland Park or Mulholland Madness at Disney's California Adventure Park.

I don't know the criteria for issuing one over the other, but I suspect that it has to do with time, with earlier arrivals getting Donald's Favorites and later arrivals getting Daisy's Favorites.

These Fastpasses will not work in the same manner as the Dream Fastpasses issued during The Year of a Million Dreams Celebration. They will be valid for ONE use on ONE of the listed attractions. This use may be redeemed at any time during the day, but can only be done once. The appropriate CM at each attraction will collect the Fastpass ticket after it has been used.

Hmmm interesting, thanks for the link.
I think we may rethink our choice as well... DH was going to pick the fastpass option for his birthday, but I think he may choose the gift card now...

I'd be interested as well in hearing anyone's personal experience from DL with this.

wow....1 pass for 1 ride. So not worth it compared to the other prizes they are offerring!

Is this part of the "What will you celebrate" promotion?

The FREE promotion? The one they dont even have to offer but they are doing so in good spirit? We are talking about the same one right?

After looking at that thread, I was a little bothered to say the least. People who are given something for free, are still going to sit back and complain about it? Be grateful people!!

Thats just not right.

If I am misunderstanding this whole promotion thingy...someone please correct me. :cutie:

Already on the 1st and 2nd we saw many many people wearing birthday buttons. More than we saw during the summer. So it seems like people are coming for their birthday and more know about the buttons now.

Sorry you're bothered by it, you're free to take the FP option for your birthday if you like it and think it's the best deal for you. The rest of us may feel differently now that we know more of the details.

I'm not sure what the birthday buttons that have always been available have to do with the new promotion... :confused3

Truth be told, the buttons are a very big part of the promotion. Disney's designed a bunch of new bottons and CM communications have a renewed focus on making sure we hand out as many as is humanly possible and recognize each and every one.

It's the same one, and yes, people are complaining about it. That's sort of what happens on DISBoards. If people aren't happy about something, it becomes a place to express that unhappiness.

I think the extra fast passes are nice, but others don't feel it's much of a birthday perk. (Which is why Disney is offering more than one option for people to choose from for the free gift they are offering guests.)

I think her point was that people are utilizing the "come on your birthday" opportunity.

I saw some people wearing the new "I am celebrating!" button when walking around the Park yesterday evening. One little girl told me she was celebrating loosing her first tooth. Too cute. :wizard:

Also, I know not as many people as you would think knew about the birthday buttons before this promo. Every time either myself or DBF have gone to DLR wearing our birthday buttons, we have always been asked by a family where we got them and that it was their birthday too.

I bet when you go to get your free ticket, FP, Fun Card or whatever the CM will probably give you a birthday button there or remind you to go to City Hall when you get in the park to go get one.

Agreed.

Plus they mention it on the new planning DVD.

Free is great, but FPs are always free, and ONE ride isn't really a whoopie sort of thing to me. I'm really hoping there has been a misunderstanding, as it is not just one ride at WDW. One FP or a giftcard...hmm....not a difficult decision!

One question I have is if the birthday person gets the fastpass, what about the rest of their party?

Good question, I was wondering about that. I'm taking my mom for her birthday and there's gonna be four of us. That'll suck if she gets the fast pass and can't use it because of the rest of us tagging along.

I believe that the fastpass is good for 5 people, although as I understand it, it is only good for one ride.

Isn't the fast pass option only for those people that already have an AP..

The gift card option is only for the people that already have an AP. That is my understanding..

We will be there on Tuesday for my mom's birthday to find out more.. We are Premium AP holders...

You can also trade in your free ticket for a birthday gift card equal too the amount of the single ticket (adult or child depending). I think that's cool because I already bought park hopper tickets so my mom is able to get a $69 gift card to buy herself a birthday present :)

I have a hard time imagining that at DL you only get one FP from the list when you get four at MK. I'm willing to bet it works the same way with two from Donald's list and two from Daisy's as have been reported on the WDW board.

But I think we need to wait until a DISer finds out first so we know for sure how it works at DLR.
