I don't want to take our cell phones unless I know we'll have coverage. Has anyone used T Mobile at The World?

Good question, as I just switched to their service. Does anyone have an answer?

We were there Christmas. Tmobile worked fairly well. There were spots where the signal wasn't very good. There was no signal in the room in the Polynesian, but we got good signal as soon as we walked outside.

It worked well when I was there for Christmas and Easter, just stay out of the way of very crowded places!!! Very hard to hear.

We were down in March and last May using T-Mobile and made these observations:

Poly - Main Cerem. House, no. In room (FIJI) , no. Outside on patio, good. Poolside and elsewhere - good. Basically walk outside.

Parks - Good signal outside

Port Orleans Riverside - rather spotty contact, worked outside main lobby, but not at Oak Manor.

Wilderness Lodge - Good ouside

Overall reception was better this March than last May..may have added a tower?

At all the themeparks, T Mobile has good coverage outside.

AKL and GF: I was able to make and receive calls from inside my rooms.

Just wanted to add that in November we had no problems using T-Mobile at parks communicating with each other or in the rooms (BCV and Polynesian)

no in the room at bcv only outside in the court yard. yes in the poly room, maybe because we were on the first floor. this was at easter, last aug. we had no trouble at the bcv, we even used them in the rooms, and vwl, and bwvs too.

We were there last June and had good coverage from TMobile everywhere we went, including in our room at All Star Music.

Coverage in the resorts is really weird - I had next to none at Pop Century, but it was so good at the All Star Music, I could use it in the elevator! :) (Not that I'm weird enough to try that on purpose - I was just yapping away, and it dawned on me that I'd gotten on the elevator without dropping the call.)

I've used T-mobile a few times in WDW. All times its been okay, some signals better than others. The only problem we use to have (just switched to Sprint) is the drive from St. Louis to Orlando. The phones just don't work in areas. Because T-mobile does not have roaming, your phone JUST DON'T WORK - PERIOD!!! We were traveling with 4 cars and 2 of them had Sprint (which worked all the time), one had AT&T that didn't hardly work at all driving down or in Orlando, and ours (DH and I) were T-mobile.

Have used T-Mobile for the last 3 years and have never had a problem. Plus this year we switched to the Family plan that means your any phone calls made to each other phones doesn't go against our minutes so this will be much better than the walkie talkies!

T-Mobile has good coverage throughout WDW, if you have a good phone. Many of the phones T-Mobile offers suffer from very poor reception and/or transmission.

The worst is the Sony Ericsson T610 you have to stand under a tower for those phones to work! The Treo 600 Smartphone isn't much better. The Nokia models 3595, 3650 and 6610 are better still but still far from the best devices. The Motorola V66, V300 and V690 work very well at WDW.

However, the two very best T-Mobile phones are the Samsung X105 and the Samsung E105. Of these two phones, the X105 is the best!

I had the same experience at the Poly. It was a bit hit and miss in the parks too.... why would this be? Just distance in relation to their towers?

The strength of the signal received by your T-Mobile phone really depends on which brand and model phone you have. As I stated in my previous post, the newest Samsung models have the best transmission and reception range.

Also, it's interesting to note that the Samsung E105 (flip phone with an external antenna nub) actually gets LESS of a signal than the Samsung X105 which has only a built-in antenna. Therefore buying a more expensive phone doesn't guarantee better reception.

Depending on the brand and model of phone you have, there are some things you can do to improve its performance. However, if your phone is more than a year old it would make more sense to get one of the newer Samsung models.

My Nokia 3650 had great reception, even in the Cabins at FtW. Better reception than I have in a lot of areas near home.

That's very interesting; we have the same model phone and got no signal at all in our cabin at FW, but once we went out onto the deck, it was ok. We had spotty coverage throughout the resort, but could get a signal pretty much anywhere by walking a few yards one way or the other.
