Has anyone used Brevard Medical Equipment for a wheelchair on the ship?

We're having a last minute hiccup over here. We're cruising on the Magic this weekend and my mother has developed an issue with her leg. She already has a cane so I'm leaning towards getting a wheelchair to make sure she is as comfortable as possible. The name we found was Brevard. Has anyone used this service? I'm trying to gather as much information in a short period of time before making the call. Thank you.

Brevard is one on the bigger companies that supply rental equipment to the cruise ships. I believe it's been used by many.

We used them when my daughter had a broken leg, and they were great. We arranged for them to have a wheelchair waiting for us in our stateroom. and DCL loaned us one until we could get to the room to get it.

We rented two collapsible wheelchairs from them and the process was very easy. Just fill in their online questionnaire, wait for them to call you, pay over the phone, and the wheelchair will be waiting in your stateroom. You return it to guest services on the last night of the cruise. Brevard was recommended to me when I called DCL. Note that it is a pain to navigate a wheelchair in the narrow hallways so, if possible, I'd try to get a stateroom close to an elevator.

Thanks for that. Two questions: Did you have any trouble getting the chairs in your stateroom or storing them once you collapsed them? Also, was there a service charge above the per night fee?

We happened to have room 12004, which is arguably one of the two _least_ wheelchair accessible on the Disney Fantasy due to its unique layout, but still didn't have major issues once the wheelchair was collapsed. If you are staying 5 people in a stateroom, note that some layouts will have the verandah blocked by a bed at night so you'd have to carry the wheelchair over it if you store the latter on the verandah. We used the verandah though, in hindsight, we might have been able to fit it under the bed which would have been easier. We only paid the flat, up-front fee for a 7-day cruise.

Thank you.

DMIL has mobility issues but is usually ok to walk short distances. It was just getting through the terminal, boarding, and times with long walking. Since we knew she was going to need one when we go other places, we bought a used one for $40. It was about the same price as it was going to be to rent one when we went last time, and now we have it for when ever we go somewhere.

We have used them several times with the senior in-laws. We actually arranged to pickup the chairs in the port terminal each time. It worked great! We were able to use one of DCL's to get the folks from curbside until we got upstairs in the terminal where are rentals were waiting. And at the end of the cruise we left them in the terminal for pickup. The DCL staff were great helping us at the terminal.

We had a handicap accessible cabin for the folks on each trip so had plenty of room in the cabin for storage on the chair when it wasn't in use.

Good luck and have a great cruise!
