I read somewhere on this board that it might be cheaper to get airfare one way then to get round trip tix. Has anyone tried this? Has anyone tried this using 2 different airlines?
We did this this past April. My DH and kids flew down Air Tran and we all flew home Jet Blue. i figured out we saved about $150. And they ended up getting bumped on the way down and we now have 8 roundtrip tickets!
The problem is that MEARS doesnt operate outside of MCO...So I figured we'd take jet blue down and then TMA back...not decided yet though...still have to talk to the TA...
We almost always fly 2 different airlines. Last time jet blue had a great rate for on the way down but not so great for on the way back up... so we waited for southwest to have a special & then booked it. Always in & out of orlando though. This time we looked to do the same thing but the southwest prices for a one way were SOOO high. If you book round trip they had more options but we don't like to fly down southwest. We spent around $100 total MORE to go roundtrip Jet blue this time, rather than roundtrip SW but we like Jet Blue much better so it was worth it for us. It all depends on when & where you look. The further back you know the better. Our last trip we knew we were taking it for about 6 months & we literally counted the days down for the air to be available & the second it came on screen we bought it. We got our airfare for less than $125 round trip from NY-- that is really great- & the times were exactly what we wanted... but you have to look a lot & but the SECOND you see it- no waiting once the screen expires the fare is gone!!! good luck!
