Has anyone traveled with needles and syringes for meds?

My SIL with MS will be cruising with us in Oct. They rarely fly for vacay and hasn't since she was diagnosed. I'm assuming b/c it's meds it has to go in carry on but wondering if there's any stipulations with that.
She will be calling airlines to get direct info but I'm just curious....:goodvibes

thanks!

My DD has diabetes and we just flew this last month. We had no problems at all.

Yes, your SIL's supplies will need to go in a carry on and she will need to tell the TSA agent what is in there, but they don't even blink an eye with it, I guess they are using to seeing it a lot.

It's not so much the airlines, but TSA since she has to go through security that she'll need information from. Here is their website: www.tsa.gov.

We flew on Delta last time, and my mom had ALOT of injectable medications with her. She put most of her insulin syringes in her checked bag, but still had several in her carryon. She put them all in a ziplock bag. She also had numerous vials of pre-filled syringes. She put them all in a gallon ziplock, with the prescription label visible. She placed them all in their own bin, and let the security agent know there were meds coming through. She also had insulin vials in a soft-sided cooler with frozen vegetables to keep them cold. We had no problem at all at any security checkpoints.

For the return trip, your SIL won't have frozen veggies to keep her insulin cold! I would bring a ziplock bag and fill it with ice at the airport. There should not be a problem with it going through security, but if they do have an issue, just dump the ice in the trash and refill the bag with more ice after passing through security.

Her meds are for MS and I don't know if they have to stay cold. If so, I'll pass this tip on!

It hasn't been a problem for DH domestically or internationally. And the drug he takes isn't even common, let alone for men to take it. Not recognizable like insulin. But there's never been a question or concern about the syringes he brings.

We had no issues the last time we flew with my daughter's needles (she is a T1 diabetic). I was told to bring a copy of her prescriptions (NOT a letter from the dr because dr letters can easily be forged). However the TSA person at the gate didn't even ask to see the script. You can usually just use the Family/Medical line at security and they will be more than accomodating.
