Has anyone taken Flexeril?

My back (slipped disc) has been acting up again. Last year I ended up in ER where they gave me pain killers and some valium. After therapy and taking these pills for awhile everything went back to normal. (no pun intended ;) )

This year my DR gave me flexeril instead of valium. It has about knocked me out, the two that I have taken so far. I'm even having problems writing this, I'm so tired!! I can't imagine what I'm going to be like with my 7th grade Math students today!:earseek:

Is this normal to be THIS relaxed with Flexeril??

Flexeril made me so relaxed you could have poured me off the bed. Between that and the painkillers, I can't say if it helped but I sure didn't care, lol.

Hope you're feeling better soon. :D

Flexaral is intented to take at bed time with a 8 hours sleep in your forcast

Flexeril is a muscle relaxant. Usually when docs prescribe it they suggest taking it at bedtime unless you are home for the day. They always warn about drowsiness and don't suggest driving or operating machinery while taking it either. You probably don't want to use that when you have to go to work. :(

Yep, it put me to sleep in about an hour and a half.
It also made me very, very mean and cranky while I was awake.

I also take Flexeril for my back. I can only take it at night or when I know I won't have to go anywhere. The directions say to take it 3 times a day! Yeah, RIGHT!!!:earseek:

I generally take it twice a week or so, when my back gets REALLY bad. I've been on it for years and I still only take it sporadically because it still hits me like a ton of bricks.

It's the same with the medication for my stomach (Bentyl). The problem with my stomach is that I can't leave the house. Then, I take the medication and it makes me all loopy and I can't leave the house. I guess the point is relief of the symptoms and not making you able to function and go back to your normal routine. So, if it gets bad, take it, lay down and sleep it off. ::yes::

I also take it for my back, I have slippage on L5 at S1--the most common area for back problems. Flexeril is good stuff, but I can only take it a bedtime, or a couple hours before bedtime, 10 mg.

Kitty, you were taking two? :earseek:

Flexeril combined with a narcotic will really knock you on your butt, at least it does for me! :faint:

I have a standing presciption for it for my neck and upper back.
It definitely helps me because it relaxes me and knocks me out. It doesn't do much for the pain though.

I agree, it's useless for the pain, but it works for relaxation purposes.

I take this for back problems occasionally also. BUT - I was directed to ONLY take it at bedtime. Even then, I can only take about a half a pill.

I canNOT imagine taking it during the day and trying to function. I honestly am surprised that they prescribed it for you that way!

When I broke my back, they gave me those. I had to cut them into quarters and take them before bed. They knocked me out all night and it took half the next day to get going again, if you know what I mean.

Then, I could only take them for 7 days in a row or I was so out of it by the 8th day I could not get out of bed at all. I only take them when my back is bothering me so bad I can't stand it and only for about 2 days in a row.

I am not used to taking meds so I think I react a little differently to prescriptions. Everything seems to "over react" for me.

My dr. prescribed it to HELP ME SLEEP SOUNDLY! So, yes, it sure does knock me out.

Wow! I don't feel so bad now!! I thought it was just me and how I was reacting to the stuff!! Valium didn't do a quarter of what Flexeril is doing to me!!:earseek:

Blondie, I took two meaning I took one when I first got back from the doctor and then one last night. I had felt tired with the first one but I thought it was the shot they had given me at the office making me feel that way. It wasn't!!

I can't believe that bottle says 3 a day!! They would have to wipe me off the desk by mid day if I had taken another one of those things this morning!!!

You're right it doesn't do much for the pain but my goodness I'm scared to death to take a Vicodin. I'd probably sleep thru the holidays!!!:teeth:

Maybe I'll call the DR and ask to be put back on Valium once a day for awhile. That worked nicely last year and I could still function as a human being. :p

I also agree...for me anyway, it did nothing for pain, but it knocked me for a loop as far as sleeping! :p

My doctor has me on this right now. It doesn't make me drowsy at all, but once I fall asleep...I'm ASLEEP!! It is so hard to wake me up, well, harder than usual! Even after 8 hours of sleep!
