We have to go to a skating competetion for a week in Colorado Springs and someone suggested taking a toaster to use in the hotel for bagels, waffels etc. I just wondered if anyone has any experience with this ? Pros/ Cons.
Do the hotels have rules against it???

:)
I just bought a new toaster for just that reason. :) I took it on our last trip and it worked out great. I left it in the box in the suitcase and just got it out in the morning when we needed it. :dance3:

I don't know about most hotels but Disney lets me bring in a toaster. We have food allergies and gluten free bread is pretty bad in the best of circumstances, untoasted it is unbearable:scared1: .

I made sure not to let any burn and stink up ajoining rooms (for those who get their knickers in a twist about such things), that stuff is too expensive to waste even one piece.

I just learned that the Poly will give you a microwave on request if available. Next time we stay there I think I'll foodsaver some meals and bring a small micro. Disney is the best place for dealing with food allergies I've found so far, but I have still had problems that affected my vacation. Maybe a micro would be a better alternative than a toaster? Less fire risk.

Take a toaster on vacation? No, I usually take my DH :rotfl2: Seriously, no I never have, but I would imagine it wouldn't be a problem. Also, have you checked to see if the hotel possibly has kitchenettes with some appliances?

Nope , never have ,,

I never really thought about taking any food cooking item with me
to a hotel room.

But it seems its very common to do so.

We just always eat out or at the motel when we travel. Makes the trip
more fun for us rather than worrying about having to lug something
back and forth home , then theres the issue of food. Have to have food
to cook in the thing,, Bring that from home or find a place to shop for it.

I never even thought about such a thing. I do know that at the resorts there are toasters in the food courts. At least the ones I stayed at.
Good Luck

Yes, we use to bring a toaster with us all the time. Just stopped doing it a few years ago. We always have breakfast in the room, it was just alot easier for us when our son was younger and actually still enjoy it now as you don't have to rush down for breakfast, back to the room to brush your teeth, etc. To us, much more relaxing. Now it's just my husband/I and we settle for bagels, muffins or cereal. So we don't bring the toaster anymore. At one point we'd buy an inexpensive one at Walmart and just leave it behind. Figured we had save $$$ eating in rather than eating out, so we'd leave it for the maid. Hope that helps.

Yes, With four kids it was a blessing not to have to rush out to eat breakfast. Not to mention the money we saved. I have used the toasters in the food courts too but it is so much easier to have one with us.

Sure you can do it... a lot of hotels also have coffee makers, so you can bring along some of the pre packaged oatmeal where you just add hot water.

I haven't brought a toaster but I have brought a crockpot :thumbsup2 It was great. Brought that along with paper goods and made dinner easy and cheap. I would rather pay for pancake breakfast, which is cheap, and save money on dinner which can be expensive. But with a crockpot through in some chicken with some Bar-B-Q sauce. Leave it while you are out for the day. When you get back for a side dish add a bag of roman lettuce and a bottle of Cesar dressing and call it dinner.

Where are you staying? Most of the moderately priced hotel chains have a breakfast area including toaster and microwave and don't mind you using it during the rest of the day.

We stopped at a Country Inn and Suites in PA last fall. Got there about 10PM. Hadn't reserved ahead and wound up in an area without a lot of options. We were thrilled to find a room, but it was a long way from any restaurants and we were too tired to make the trek. The desk clerk said it was no problem to use the breakfast area, so we got leftovers out of our cooler to reheat and had a nice meal in our room. Much easier than going out!

I just bought a toaster for our trip in August. I will be shipping it down with other food items, cereal, snacks and yes bagels. I then plan to use the box to ship back the toaster and souveneirs.

Sounds yummy, but doesn't it stink up your room and the surrounding areas too? Whenever I cook anything in my crockpot for hours the smell permeates my whole house (two levels).

Why not rent a hotel room with a refridgerator, and micowave, Problem solved!! Or better yet one with a free breakfast. There are several in Colorado Spring!!
