just thinking of worst case scenarios, etc. and factoring in the possibility of offsetting DVC costs through renting of points if necessary.

so, if you made a Disney Collection ressie, but then had to cancel, leaving you stuck w/ DC points...

is it a lot more difficult to rent these out?

what's the longest time it's ever taken to successfully rent out points like these?

and do you have to lower your price significantly in order to be successful because of the not-economical points usage in the Disney Collection?

IMHO, the answer to both of your yes/no questions is a resounding YES!

Most people who want to rent points are looking for a "good deal". It is almost always more economical to rent directly from Disney if you want a non-DVC resort than to rent points from a DVC member. (Actually, I've never run across a case where it is best to rent for a non-DVC hotel unless the DVC member was renting for way under market value). This is especially true if Disney is offering discount codes and you factor in the "risk" of renting.

Fr example, there is an AP discount at the AKL for $174/night or $194.88 with tax (peak season). You need 37 points per weekday and 67 points for Fri & Sat nights. If you rented points for a weekday, you need to get them for $5.27 each to "break even" with Disney. You'd have to get the points for $2.91 each for a weekend night. I suppose those prices are better than nothing if you are going to lose the points. I'd rather reschedule the trip and use the points myself (or maybe give it to one of my friends/family members) and rent only if there was no other choice than losing the points.

Anyway, that's one of the reasons why I don't plan to use points for a non-DVC resort at WDW. The main reason is I love the DVC accomodations and just don't want to give uyp the extra space. DVC really is a better deal if you use your points to stay at DVC resorts.

HTH.

:( doesn't look like it's going well.

anyway, the reason i asked was 'cause i was looking at a resale that had a whole bunch of points stuck in Disney Collection that i wouldn't have been able to use.
it's all a moot point now 'cause the resale was taken off the market.
but, it would've been a big pain to get rid of those points (trying to rent them)
