Has anyone stayed at this hotel?

It's the Sheraton Universal Hotel. I just came across in while browsing the web (as you do!), and it might be a good base for us to do Universal and the other Hollywood stuff, save us travelling all the way from Anaheim. We would still have a few nights at Disneyland hotel to cover the disney parks, but thought this hotel might be a good option for Universal etc.

Any views would be great. :D

Hi Mazzy,
just had a look at this hotel and it looks really nice I wouldn't hesitate in booking it. We are staying at a Sheraton hotel (Sheraton Park Anaheim) and I think Starwood seem to be a good hotel group.

I thought it looked nice too, but have just looked it up on Trip Advisor, and it's got some bad reviews mainly for stained carpet, extremely small bathrooms and overall cleanliness which is a shame but there are a lot of bad reviews which is quite off-putting so don't think we will be staying there now. :(

We stayed here about 2 years ago and loved, loved it! Dh had a convention so we all went along and since work paid for his room, we decided to pay the small difference to upgrade to "Club Level" and it was so worth it (not like concierge at the D R Hotels-lol) They had a big breakfast with tons of cereal, all kinds of fruit, juices, danish and pastries, yogurt, lots of different coffee machines-I didn't even know what they all were-lol-expresso, mocha, reg, etc. Then, in the afternoon, they had "hot" foods, real foods and plenty of it stuff I liked and stuff the kids liked too.
On the first morning, I noticed lots of kids still in the pajamas in the club room so from then on, we just marched the kids over in their pajamas and the kids loved it! No waiting for anything!
Our room was on that same (8th?) floor and was a corner room and had windows all the way around 2 walls! It was beautiful and the "sweet sleeper" beds are really heavenly or are they "heavenly beds"? Our room was very clean and we had no trouble at all.
The best part was the free shuttle to US. We also loved the "city walk" area and the restaurants. However, my kids were too little for US and were scared by just about everything, even the Shrek 4d thing, so it wasn't that great a place to go but we loved the hotel!

Thanks for telling me about your stay at the hotel Fidoprincess - I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's very hard to know what a hotel is really like when you read such mixed reviews - I guess we have to think a bit more about this one. :D

I was thinking about that hotel too, but ended up making a reservation at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. It's about 3 miles from Universal & you can take public transportation to Universal Studios. The Renaissance Hotel has good reviews on the Tripadvisor board. I'm staying there for 3 nights, Disney for 3 nights and San Diego for 3 nights.

We didn't stay at the Sheraton, but were at the Hilton Universal which is also in the area and very nice - or at least it was in 1998. :)

That's right NancyIL , I remember the Hilton was right next door! It looked nice and lots of people commented they were happy there too. Staying right there can not be beat! We used the free shuttle and went back and forth a lot. Even when we didn't go into US, we still went to CityWalk and loved it. I don't like to drive in LA though so for me to hop on a free shuttle is heaven-lol!

Thanks everyone, the Hilton sounds interesting as it has a shuttle, off to have a look ...... :D

Mazzy,
take no notice of Trip Advisor, we were looking at the reviews for the Hyatt regency Orange County and they were really bad and I went into Going Places to pay to change hotels and the manager had stayed there and convinced me that it was fine. When we got there its the best hotel we have stayed in, its lovely.
I always e-mail a hotel beforehand and tell them what I want (high floor, pool view etc) and let them know that I've read the reviews on Trip Advisor and tell them I'm a bit worried about my stay and they will probably give you their best room available...lol.
Love Ella

I stayed there a few years ago when I was there for a conference. It was close to Universal, however I didn't go because I didn't have time and was by myself. It was a close walk to a shopping district and there were a lot of restaurants at the district. The hotel was fine in my opinion--not bad, but not luxury.

Again, I can't comment on the Sheraton, but our room at the Hilton Universal was quite large, with a VERY large marble bathroom. Are the prices at the two hotels comparable?

Well thanks so much for your replies, and I've been having a good look around at different hotels, and what have I found but The Beverley Hilton - OMG!!!! the rooms look fabulous, I think we have just got to stay there - this may be our only trip to the West Coast and I think we just HAVE to do it in style! ;)

What do you think? Has anyone stayed at the Beverley Hilton? And even Trip Advisor gives it rave reviews! ;)
