Has anyone stayed at a hotel with a kitchen? How much did you pay?

I'm beginning to look into accommodation costs in Anaheim and yikes! It seems that my plan to save a bundle in flights by doing DL instead of DW is going to be a wash by the time we pay for a hotel in Anaheim, especially since we prefer a room with a kitchen.

Has anyone done it before? How much did you pay a night for a room with a kitchen? Our strategy is we would rather buy our own food and cook instead of eating out every day which is why a kitchen is a must. It seems the only affordable option is a vacation home, but others have cautioned that decision.

I've heard good things about Residence Inn and Homewood suites. I can't personally vouch for those as I haven't stayed there. We usually only stay in rooms with a mini fridge and microwave, not a full kitchen.

I second looking at the Homewood Suites. I haven't stayed in one in Anaheim, but I have used them in other cities. We didn't much use the kitchen, but I recall a sink, full-size refrigerator, microwave, stove top, and a dishwasher.

Homewood Suites is lovely and has a full kitchen. It also has full huge cooked breakfasts included every day and cooked dinners with wine included mon to thurs. I paid about $179pn last year. It was cheaper than my other go-tos Hojo and CCI by $20pn at the time and although a bit further away is much nicer IMHO.

Staybridge Suites also have kitchens in the Anaheim Resort location on S Manchester; I believe this is also the case at their new hotel on Ball Rd (Anaheim at the Park). Guess if you don't mind traveling to and from the S Manchester location to DLR on the ART bus then this may help.

On Mondays, Tuesday and Wednestay evenings they have what is called 'The Social' between 1730 and 1930, allowing for snack food and alcohol to be available. This may well save a bit of money too. This is certainly the case at the S Manchester location but I have no idea whether or on what days the Ball Rd location have theirs.

It is not walking distance, but we stayed at the Pepper Tree Hotel last year and the room was cute, the beds were comfy, and the room we stayed in (king courtyard I think) had a good little kitchen. I don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't overly expensive.

We stayed at homewood suites in March. $180/night + the 15% tax. King suite with 3 bunk beds. Couch bed in living room wasn’t too comfy. Ok for 1.

A full, hot breakfast included in the cost every day.

A full dinner Monday through Thursday nights. Complimentary beer & wine. Salad bar every night. Our gluten free family always had choices. Always at least one soup. Then the dinners were pasta, nachos, chicken strips/buffalo wings, sandwiches, I can’t remember the other options we’ve had on stays there.

Residence Inn was our go to for many years. They are great. Love the kitchen, and they will grocery shop for free!

I never have but I wonder if it might be cheaper to book a place via airbnb. For example, I found a nice-looking one-bedroom home in Fullerton (probably about 6 miles from the park) for $68 a night, all included.

Clementine Hotel, used to be the Residence Inn Maingate. 15 min walk, or ART. Hot breakfast. And full kitchen (and a BBQ area.)

Yes, this is what we did when we went to DW in Feb, we paid $100/night for a townhouse. I would love to do that again, but a few people said it wasn't a wise idea in Anaheim for some reason.

Maybe someone can speak to why that may be?

I hear that Anaheim can be rough, hence the nickname "Ana-crime." The place I looked at was in Fullerton, which is about six miles or so from the park. I've only been there a few times and it looks fine to me.

There are some nice villa/townhouses in the street behind Mickey and Friends parking structure, they are on the HomeAway website. We stayed near there a few years ago and it felt safe even walking back at night. The problem now is that Anaheim have banned short term rentals so many rentals aren’t available past different parts of next year... we found a good one available up until the end of August, but we are there sept/oct.

Yeah, I think I heard something about that. Fullerton is very close to the park and likely cheaper since it's outside of Anaheim. That's why I suggested it :-).

Since the city of Anaheim banned STRs, there has been confusion on this issue. Many property owners applied for extensions, but those are running out now. For example, the pp said that the extension on the property she liked runs out at the end of next summer. There are reports of properties that are being rented out without legal extensions now. So the renter is at risk of getting scammed. There are STRs in neighboring cities, but the lower cost/night has to be weighed against the inconvenience of distance from the parks (and even a 15-20 minute drive on surface streets can be a big inconvenience over a multiday trip when done more than once a day) and the added cost of parking (currently $20/day, but bound to increase by the time of your trip).

Ive stayed at the hampton inn and they have a full kitchen and free hot breakfast every morning. Also they have a new hampton inn in buena park that is really inexpensive. They open in December. I booked a room for like $116 in May 2019 so, you might want to check that out as well. I would look on the hilton.com website as they have a few hotels that accommodate this. If you have AAA you can get a discount as well. Make sure to check for free breakfast. Also check getawaytoday.com as they have 3rd and 4th night deals as well.

I've stayed at an Extended Stay America. Clean, basic, adequately equipped kitchen. No pool. It was just a little over $100/night. The 'trade off' with ESA is that there is NO daily maid service (unless you want to pay an upcharge), rooms do get cleaned on the 8th day if you stay 8 nights or longer. You can pick up clean towels and bedding at the main desk though.

What is affordable to you?

Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn and Residence Inn have suites with full kitchens. If you stay at the ones about a mile away you can get it for less than $200/night. They come with a full hot breakfast, which saves some time and money and some of them have an evening banquet where they serve finger foods during weeknights.

No matter what you choose, I would think you'd save a lot of money cooking your own food vs. buying out. However, I also feel it is a time suck to shop for groceries and then have to leave the parks for food every day.

We pre-order groceries from Von's and have them delivered the day of arrival. We don't go to a park that day.

This is our favorite place to stay. Rooms are really spacious and nice, the little patios attached to the first floor rooms have fountains and plants and are very private, the kitchen is well equipped and when we have gone the price has been comparable or less than the motels in the DLR area. The only downside is that it's not walking distance, but my partner is the one who does most of the driving and if I give her the choice she always picks this place over a walking-distance motel. You will have to ask yourself realistically if you'll go back for meals if you have to drive, though. Also, assuming you don't have an AP with parking included, you would need to figure parking into the price equation.
