I just checked out the prices for pizza at hte new rest. I did a double take $27-36 for a cheese and pep. pizza (large). Are the prices a little high for something that doesn't cost much to make. Any thoughts ...in the great lakes states a large pie will run about $13.00.

It's Disney World.

Look at it this way...if you buy that $36 twelve-slice pizza for four people, that's three slices each and $9 per person, that's not bad for a WDW sit-down meal.

$13 for a 12-slice pizza would be a huge bargain at WDW.

For anything made in WDW prices are going to be steep.
The prices are better than I thought they would be.
YOu also have to remember that this may be a TS so you also
have to include tip cost in the price. I'm hoping they will have
a take out window where you can buy slices but I haven't read anything like that. Kind disappointed that it's not a CS, Italy sure needs one.

It might also be "authentic", using fresh cheeses and imported tomatoes. We have some high end pizzerias here in DC, and while they still don't cost the prices you posted, it's close (and they're smaller).

Then again, it could be canned tomatoes and Kraft mozzarella.

Wood-fired pizzas: made with caputo flour imported from Southern Italy, San Marzano tomatoes, handmade mozzarella and water from a local spring just like in Italy’s Campania region

I think the price is high, but they are claiming imported ingredients. I had a pizza in Italy once, very different then US styles. I wonder....?

According to recent info released by the Disney Parks Blog, Via Napoli is a TS and will have no takeout window.

The ingredients they say they're using are high-end and expensive.

We do a high-end gourmet pizza, homemade, on Sunday nights with San Marzano tomatoes that we make into sauce, as well as fresh mozzarella (the freshest we can find, anyway, at our local organic shops), and it's a lot more expensive than just buying a Boboli, Ragu pizza sauce and some dry shredded cheese.

Just trying to compare apples to apples (homemade gourmet/high-end ingredients vs. homemade mainstream/inexpensive ingredients).

I sure hope it's good!

What time should we arrive Sunday? :rotfl:

My family is a major pizza family, and has been in business for 30 years. Pizza is in my blood...

Dad uses mutliple kinds of tomatoes in all of his homemade sauces - he does a meat sauce for pasta and tomato sauce for veal, and pizza sauce for pizza. Not sure what kind of high quality ingredients Disney will be using, but I'm sure they'll be San Marzano tomatoes, which dad says are not the best. After 50 years of making pizzas, he knows his ingredients. San Marzano is a popular type, but he feels they are not the best. He just received some new tomatoes from California this week, and the difference was amazing! His sauce is incredible as is, but during our taste test, we all could taste the difference, and asked what it was?

Regarding cheese and spring water, he just lauged at this as well. The cheese my family uses is super expensive, so it tastes really good. They also y don't use spring water either, imagine that? Dad says that's just a marketing ploy by Disney. They are throwing around brands that the average guest won't have any idea about, so they'll pay those prices, but for people in the business, they know there may be better quality ingredients out there. Not necessarily more expensive, but perhaps more authentic and flavourful? Disney's idea of high-end expensive, I'm sure won't be what the rest of us consider expensive. They need to make profits, so that's what is going to drive the pizza ingredients, I'm pretty certain of that.

The prices are crazy, but it's Disney. I don't expect anything fantastic from Napoli either. We won't be ordering any of those items - not only expensive, but U.S. sizes. Our Canadian sizes of pizza are bigger, so those are smaller pizzas than what dad cooks, so they are even more expensive.

I showed dad the prices and he just laughed, and said he's surprised it took them so long to do this, and why didn't they call him? LOL!

And they have won best dough many times. He says that's just a marketing ploy. Silly Disney!

That's not entirely Disney's marketing ploy, but that of the contractor, Patina Group, which has two other pizzerias operating that make the same claim. Like most of the World Showcase restaurants, this one won't be operated by Disney.

Right. I know that - sorry for the confusion. But since they are operating for Disney, I just worded it that way. I edited my post as it was a bit confusing! So sorry about that. I didn't re-read it when I wrote it.

Regardless, the best pizza comes from small, authentic places, not commmercial restaurant groups like Patina. Haven't tried it, so I can't make an assessment on it, but have had pizza in many places, as has my father, and truly high-end ingredients are used all of the time at small, family run authentic places, that actually handmake everything that goes on their pizzas. Patina seems to be trying to incorporate that family culture, into their corporate culture, and that is their marketing strategy. Probably a good idea, since most guests won't know the food brands they are speaking of, and will pay high amounts because the pizza I'm sure will look good, and will have some strong ingredients on it. The best? That remains to be seen, by pizza experts. LOL! I would love to try it, but at those prices, I am going to have to pass. It could be fabulous pizza, but I can't pay those prices! Yikes!

I'm sure it will work, as the pizza at Disney looks horrible, so I imagine anything better will be a winner.:thumbsup2

We live in the pizza capital of Canada. My family has won many awards, including dad's sauce. Pizza is in my blood...

San Marzano is not a brand. It is a type of tomato grown in San Marzano in the Campania region of Italy. There are at least a dozen "brands" that were commissioned to sell the San Marzano. It is a longer tomato than the plum tomato with thicker flesh and less seeds. It is a much sweeter tomato than the California type tomato that is essentially the same seed but without the benefit of growing in Italy.

Yes, thanks I knew this. Sorry I didn't articulate it properly. Instead of brand, I should have said region, I guess? I edited my post as I didn't re-read it, and it even confused me after I read your post.

Thanks for that information - you know lots about tomatoes! You and my dad would definitely get along well. :thumbsup2

We live in the pizza capital of Canada.

We have a pizza capital??

I also don't understand your comment about Canadian pizzas being bigger. Pizzas I've seen are generally described in terms of their diameter in inches - an 8 inch pizza is an 8 inch pizza no matter what country is serving it.

After eating Disneyfied:sick: Pizza all these years, I would pay that in a second for a decent pizza in the World. ;)
Hoping to try it in Aug! :goodvibes

Am I the only person who doesn't care where the tomatoes come from or what kind of cheese they use? I just want a pizza that tastes good.

I'm shocked! At the D-23 thing in May they said there would be also be a CS take out window.

Small, medium, large and extra large pizzas are bigger in diameter here in Canada. So, our pizzas are classified by either small, medium, large or extra large, and not 8" or 12". When you compare a medium U.S. pizza, it is more like a small Canadian pizza.
