I'd really like to know if The Lion King at the Pantages Theatre would be suitable for a three year old? He's pretty laid back most times and has no trouble sitting through an entire Disney movie (or two sometimes!) in a sitting, but I'd hate to spend over $400 Cdn for him to not enjoy it. Any info on what a young child might think of the show would be appreciated. And, does anyone know how we'd get to the Theatre from Anaheim (we won't have a car). I'd like to know the approximate time and cost if anyone can help me with this.

Thanks!

Hi Stephen's Mom! The Lion King is an INCREDIBLE show, and my 8-year-old was mesmerized by it. It is LONG show, though, and I honestly don't know if she would have sat through it when she was three. I definitely recommend doing a matinee over an evening performance, if you decide to go, as the evening show will be too late for a little one.

As for getting there...it is a HAUL from Anaheim to Hollywood, and the traffic can be brutal. If you don't have a rental car your options would be using a private transportation service or a taxi, neither of which would be cheap.

Good luck whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you! :)

We took our 7-yr old. It was an 8pm showing on a Sat night back in March. I purchased the tickets the previous JULY - I asked for the first Sat night with four orchestra seats together, and that was the best I could do.

He dozed off after the intermission, and I woke him at the end. If I do it again, it will be a matinee. He did like what he saw; I never dreamed he'd crash halfway through it. In all honesty I wouldn't take a 3 yr old.

As for getting there from Anaheim - If you're doing a matinee, try this - take a taxi to the Green Line train station just off the 605 freeway in Norwalk. Take the green line train to the blue line to the red line, and get off at the Hollywood & Vine station; the Pantages Theater is just across the street. Do it all in reverse to get back. (don't try this at night; I don't think the trains run that late + not safe) Taxi fare to train station will probably be $20 each way (just a guess); train tix will be $4-$5 per person. Give yourself at least 1.5 hours of travel time on the trains; i.e., leave your hotel at least 2 - 3 hrs before showtime.

Another option is to take Amtrak from Anaheim to Union Station in LA, and pick up the red line there. You'd have to research fares & hours for Amtrack.

If you take a taxi from Anaheim to Hollywood be prepared to pay at least $60 each way.

We rode the trains this way (we left our car at the train station for the day) when we saw Tarzan at the El Capitan theater 2 years ago; however the El Capitan was about 1 mile from Hollywood & Vine!! We got our walking in that day, for sure. If you do this, be aware that the Blue Line portion goes through South Central LA.

Another suggestion is to break up your vacation & stay 1 or 2 nights at the Universal Hilton or the Universal Sheraton; you're right there at Universal Studios, and there's the red line station there too!! We stayed at the Universal Hilton the weekend we saw TLK and took the red line to Hollywood; it was just 2 stations & were on the train for 5 mins.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the help everyone. As much as I'd like to see it I think I'll pass on it. It sounds like the whole experience may be a bit overwhelming for him (we're so used to being able to drive anywhere in our city in under 15 min. that I imagine the trip there would be a nightmare for him - and me too, since I complain when I have to wait 5 min. in traffic!!). I guess I'll be in for a rude awakening when we leave the airport - but at least I won't be doing the driving!

Where are you flying into? If it's the OC airport it won't be too bad, but LAX - look out!!

:bounce:

I have tickets to the Lion King for a Sunday matinee, and am wondering how long the show lasts. A rough estimate is fine -- just trying to plan the day/evening accordingly.

Thanks,
MickeyMagic

Hi MickeyMagic! With the intermission, the show lasts about three hours. :)

While I would pass on the Lion King, I would jump on anything at the El Capitan Theater (the movie house.) We saw TLK in New York on NYE last year (good show in an awful theatre.) We saw Atlantis at the El Capitan in the front row of the Balcony (bad show in a great theater.) I felt I got a lot more value for my money at The El Capitan. It really is a neat experience.
