Has anyone seen the ad campaigns about the bathroom bill?

OK, I read the whole thing and can't find the part about the bathrooms :lmao:

What was the point of the article anyway? There could be a straight woman with a gun in the women's washroom. Why would this bill have anything to do with safety in the least (that is if I could find that part, in the first place)?

These people are probably just complainers

As I read it the bill doesn't have anything to do w/bathrooms - just expanding hate crime laws in definition to include the transgender population.

Out and about if we need to use a public restroom(even at WDW) its the buddy system - no one goes alone. Has nothing to do w/who is allowed in the BR - if someone is going to commit an act of violence they are not stopping at the door and saying "OH can't go in here because it says Ladies and/or Mens"

exactly, I re-read it and re-read it, and it doesn't have anything to do with the bathroom:confused3

exactly what I thought too. I think certain groups take a piece of something and sensationalize it to scare people. and certain people will not take the time to read the actual bill in question, they just get scared over nothing.

I have not personally heard any of the ads here.

I'm actually an activist with the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC). I know the Dis is supposed to be politics-free, but as Harvey Milk said; "It's more than an issue – it's our lives we're fighting for." Basically, the opposition is framing the transgender civil rights bill as the "bathroom bill" because of just one part, equal access to public accommodation. For example, they do not see me as a transgender woman but only as a man, and thus me being in the women's bathroom is an assault on women and girls. When in reality, it is I and other trans folk whose lives are at risk just to go to the bathroom. The bill is about so much more, protection from discrimination in housing, employment, education, and including transgender under hate crimes laws.
The 'bathroom bill' tactic has already worked for pro-hate groups, a similar bill in New Hampshire was shot down last month by the same legislature that approved gay marriage there.
I think I may be the only transgender person on this board, and I don't post much because I've found this board to be transphobic at times, but please do what you can to support this bill, and similar ones in your own state as only 13 states have transgender-specific laws, and on the national level, ENDA is being reintroduced as transgender inclusive. If you live in Mass, check out masstpc.org (MTPC's website) for more info, we have a hearing next week!

Dale your post is fine.

And please dont be afraid to post over here....I really dont think anyone is Transphobic, just a little .....umm what is the word I am looking for, I guess uneducated about the subject.

I know myself, I know little about the subject at all, and look forward to learning new things about your strugle with current laws.

:yay: Hey!!! I'd love for you to post more, too. And not *just* cuz you're a fellow FW camper. ;)

Exactly! Notice how the opposition doesn't seem too concerned about men's safety for transgender men using the men's bathroom. When many trans men I know don't use public bathrooms in fear of being assaulted themselves.
Our worst hate group here is called Mass Resistance, and my picture is posted there (they have a habit of showing up at LGBT events and videotaping them) and the caption is, "man in dress, weird!" LOL

And not *just* cuz you're a fellow FW camper.

Did you guys notice what they called the Treehouse Villas? "Glamping" A new Disney term for Glamorous Camping!

How gay is that? :rotfl2:

I will not pretend to understand all that is transgender - BUT - you are still people with feelings, needs, likes and dislikes, opinions, substance and thought that can add to the diversity and the betterment of our world - I can't/don't understand WHY people find someone whom is different from them a threat:confused3 Differences make for a stronger society - wealth of view points - to see beyond your own little place in the world - this is what makes us grow as people and we will be better for it.

Can't imagine all the friendships I wouldn't have in my life today if I or they let a "difference" of religion, politics, or sexual pref. stop us from knowing each other:sad2:

Just my 2 cents

Ick. I went to their site cuz I wanted to see your pic, but honestly, just the captions on that page made me ill. The hatefulness of people is freaking breath-taking. I had to abandon my (extremely short) search because I couldn't take it.

"focus on your own damn family," indeed. :scared:

;) too funny.

But I have to say that when we camp it's not exactly "roughing it." Especially at FW, where we have full hook ups. All we're missing is our butler. And the maid. But other than that it's pretty glam. :cool2:

And I went over to that website too, I lasted about 15 seconds.....

I am glad you posted too! :thumbsup2

It is really sad when groups use this as a scare tactic when, your right, it is absolutley the other way round. I have said here in the past that my GF always gets hasseled for using the WOMENS room. :confused3 Once she was assulted for doing so.

I don't usually post over here, but this caught my eye.

I think it's insanity! I hate the way that people twist the truth to scare other people.

And has anyone realized that the ones who throw the bible at the issue are the biggest hypocrites? I mean Jesus taught acceptance and that no one has the right to judge others, yet they are all high and mighty, and think they are better then anyone else. It's funny actually.

I'm really sorry that this bill might not get passed because a handful are ignorant.

I really hope I'm not intruding by being straight and posting here....that's not my intent....
